Jeez, I'm glad I don't live in NYC. What a bunch of jackassses.

"Can you tell me what happened in one specific Yankee game in August? Cause if you can't you aren't qualified to be an MVP voter. I mean it happened to a New York team, that makes it important. THAT MAKES IT IMPORTANT."

I don't live in precisely NYC, but I do live in the metro area. Thanks for feeling my pain, Mike.

Awesome.

Cowley had his reasoning chewed up and spit out.

Mike and the Dog are idiots, no doubt, but Cowley was completely exposed. He tries to show a logical progression on his selection criteria that collapsed each time he elaborated on it..hilarious. Maybe the three of them should do a show together, preferably in Albania..

How can anybody listen to these guys for longer than five minutes?
   7. salvomania Posted: November 21, 2006 at 09:02 PM (#2243491)
That a guy like Cowley---with the logic he displayed---has a BBWAA vote for the MVP really diminishes the credibility of the award.

Morneau--the guy "who carried the Twins into the playoffs"---had sub-.900 OPSs in both August and September, yet Cowley berates Jeter---who had a .909 OPS after the All-Star break---as "a guy who hit just 14 homers."

Incredible.

Do these guys have any clue at all?

Cowley didn't sound great, but I'd probably have trouble making a coherent point when interrupted every two seconds by two screaming jackasses, too.

I only remember this Joe Cowley

Mike and Dog agreed that Jeter deserves extra credit for his "intangibles," and that you can't possibly appreciate him unless you see him play every day. Then they agreed that Jeter deserved a demerit for not defending A-Rod, with Dog adding that that should have no relevance to an MVP vote (too intangible, apparently).
Then Dog flipped to discussing Michigan, said they had crushed Notre Dame 47-21, Mike said it was 37-21, maybe 40-21, then no, definitely 37-21.
Five minutes later, Mike reluctantly acceded to the 47-21 score, then pretty much dismissed it because Michigan didn't gain enough yards in the game.
Then Dog said he'd have voted for Jeter for the Heisman.

When the truth is sufficiently absurd, parody is impossible. And so it is in this case.

Much as I think they are idiots, these guys were probably the most listenable sports talk radio there was. But I think they are losing it. They have become so full of themselves, so sure that we are entertained by each detail of their lives, that they no longer make any effort to be interesting.

Don't bother practicing those live spots, just stumble through them, sounding like a drunk robot. Spend 20 minutes with the Mike trying to guess TV ratings for a college football game? Sure why not! Dedicate an entire show to unwrapping Christmas gifts between the two? Heck yes, and we'll do it three weeks before Christmas so we can all get our customary month off for the holiday!
Berate your co-workers and spend endless hours discussing your childcare problems, as if you are the only person ever to deal with these issues? That's great radio.

These guys are so bad that I'd often prefer the stylings of idiot Michael Kay.

How'd they get children, kidnapping?
   13. Darren Posted: November 21, 2006 at 11:47 PM (#2243603)
I don't know but they should have them taken away. Actually, it would probably be a good idea. It's embarrassing listening to maddog complain about having to spend time with his kids.

I still like them, but they're tolerable in small doses - I'd say I usually listen about once every week.

Surrogate penises.

Cowley's probably not the 1st voter who tried to aid his #1 pick by voting the main competition artificially low, but it's a petty tactic. Despite how much time he had to prepare, Cowley didn't do very well under cross-examination.

But how can people listen M&MD;regularly? Tough on the ears.
   17. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: November 22, 2006 at 02:33 AM (#2243697)
Surrogate penises.

I have all their albums.

I didn't want to subject myself to listening to this interview, but did they ask Cowley about putting A.J. Pierzynski 10th on his ballot, but leaving Mauer off entirely? Award voters make idiotic decisions all the time, but it's hard to remember one as utterly indefensible as that. Differences of opinion are fine, but there's no way a guy with a joke vote like that should ever be given an award ballot again.

Oh come on. These guys are 100 times smarter than Michael Kay.

Mike and Dog agreed that Jeter deserves extra credit for his "intangibles," and that you can't possibly appreciate him unless you see him play every day.

This is arse backwards -- the more you actually watch him play, the worse the real Jeter looks compared to the mythical one.

When the truth is sufficiently absurd, parody is impossible. And so it is in this case.

Michigan dominated Notre Dame as badly as you can dominate a team. If it's possible for a 47-20 game to not be as close as the score indicated, this was the game. Francesca can be a fool.

These guys are so bad that I'd often prefer the stylings of idiot Michael Kay.

Let's not go too far.

That's only true insofar as when it comes to smarts Michael Kay is a zero, and 100 times 0 is once again 0.

What alternatives are there on the internet when one wants to listen to sports talk?

I have had enough of Dan Patrick. He is only tolerable when Olbermann is on.

The same can be said of Colin Cowherd. While he has the odd good guest, he spends a lot of the time throwing out his theories and when someone disagrees he calls them losers (or something like that).

MLB radio? I can't stand Leyritz!

Mike and Mad Dog do have good guests and will keep guests around to talk about subjects. No, they aren't sports experts in the weakest definition of the term but they provide a forum for discussion.

My only wish is that Tony Kornheiser gets fired from Monday Night Football so he can get back to radio which he was best at. Tony had entertaining and fairly knowledgeable guests and while he can be sarcastic, Tony never took himself to seriously.

Is there any other worthwhile shows out there on the net?

When Colbert does it it's comedy.
