What in the name of Michael Jackson is up with Sammy Sosa?

Sheeeet! Not since Sammy hugged Nixon has…

Retirement, or something, appears to be changing Sammy Sosa(notes). He and wife, Sonia, were recently in Las Vegas for the Latin Grammys, which included a tribute on Wednesday to singer Juan Gabriel. Photogs caught the Sosas on the red carpet and Sonia looks fabulous as always. As for Sammy ... well, there’s no getting around it, but Sammy looked kind of pale.

His skin is undeniably lighter than at any time since he broke into the majors in 1989. Is it an illness, or a condition such as Vitiligo, in which depigmentation occurs? Is Sammy just bleaching his skin for fashion’s sake? (Heh, “just.")

I wonder if he is changing his look, simply because his eyes are a different color. Sammy was born with brown eyes. He’s taken to wearing green contact lenses and, quite frankly, they are extremely creepy. Is he co-starring in the upcoming “Twilight” sequel? The plastic suit also bothers me, just because it does.

How will this affect his Hall of Fame chances?

I bet that he put his wife's makeup on to look better on camera, and didn't use the right shade.

If so, that's a ####-load of makeup that he tossed on himself.

Well, he's a baseball player.

Ah Baseball Think Factory, I can always can on you for something interesting to start my day off with...(and yeah, this is pretty much the second site I check out upon waking...)

That is freaky. I guess it could be makeup, but I'm doubting it. More pictures here.

If Sosa has proven anything in his years in the public eye, it's that he has absolutely no clue as to how he is perceived by others. Michael Jackson is a creepy analog that I have never considered, but I can see it.

Maybe he's the one non-teenage girl fan of Twilight.

I think a #### load would make him look darker. You need something to make him lighter.

That is freaky. I tried to make my wife guess who he was, and when I told her she didn't believe me.

Wow, if that's not a trick of the light or something, I don't know what to say. Hopefully it's not a disease that's causing that.

I wonder of that is an impostor. I mean Michael Jackson's slide into a multiracial mess took several years, and Sammy still looks like Sammy in pictures from last year.

Why would he put makeup on his hands?

The hands look fine to me.

From Andere's link, here's a picture of Sosa from last May. He looks a few years older than he did a few years ago, but not like someone has been spiking his Soft Soap with Chlorox or that he forgot to take shower after getting off work at the flour mill or something.

That was exactly my take. It's not just the bleaching. There's something clown-ish going on with his facial features, too. Very creepy.

This photo of Sammy Sosa is as bad as the others.

Yeah, I think I can go the rest of my life without seeing any more new pictures of Sosa. I shudder to think what he's going to look like in ten years.

Something must be wrong with all of us. No one has commented on the other person's attributes.

That's how you know for sure that Sosa looks bad, that he can make his wife's breasts invisible. The expression on her face doesn't help.

New Sammy kind of looks like Lou Bega.

If Barry Bonds shows up with Halle Berry's complexion, and Mark McGwire goes from beet red to princess pink, then the pieces will start to fall into place.

What if Sosa has been wearing makeup for 25 years+ and he left it off one night?

Ok, nevermind

Ok, nevermind

Bleach has just been re-issued. Maybe the new look is Sosa's tribute to that...
