World Series Rings

hellodes sez…“caramel-coated porn to the BTF mob” from…Paul Lukas/Uni Watch.

As you’ve probably heard a few bazillion times by now, the Yankees have won 26 World Series titles. But here’s a little-known tidbit: The Yanks have won only 25 sets of World Series rings.

Why? Because the Yanks didn’t start issuing championship rings until 1927. When they won the Series in 1923, their players received commemorative pocket watches.

That nugget of info comes from Adam Okurowski’s new Web site, World Series Rings, which appears to be the first site ever devoted to this topic. It’s a doozy, too: Okurowski covers all the team-issued World Series winners’ rings since 1922, the vast majority of the league championship rings from that same period, lots of World Series ticket stubs and program covers, and some pre-1922 championship medallions and watches.

So the Cubs have no rings at all.

They have all the rings together in the HOF World Series room. Let me say that this website does not do the 2003 Marlins ring justice. The real reason they had the second firesale was because they had no money after getting all that bling-bling.

Pretty web site. Most of the rings are darn right ugly, though.

The worst part is that it seems to be Loria's ring. Shame on him.

I followed the 2002 Angels pretty closely, and I don't recall Billy Sample being associated with the team. They must have just given them out to everyone that year.

So all this time, when we were counting da ringz, we counted wrong.

The 2003 Marlins World Series rings almost turned me into a communist.

The close-up of the 2005 White Sox ring is from a different person from the one on the main page. The close-up belonged to Bertucci, who was the clutch Patio on that team.

God help your belief in Capitalism if you ever see them in person.

check out the Indians loser ring/pins from 1954--my God, if you think the current version of Chief Wahoo is racist...

Any reference on the site to Eric Rolfe Greenberg's The Celebrant, a novel about a fictional family of jewleers who make World Series rings in the 1910s?

Not that I saw, but that's an amazing book.

The 2007 Sox ring runs laps around all the other ones. Nice and understated (at least by WS ring standards).
