Yahoo:  Tim Lincecum relates to kid pitcher from ‘Rookie of the Year’

Tim Lincecum says he loves pitching at Wrigley Field and his performance there on Tuesday suggested as much.

But no matter the results, the Cy Young award winner says he appreciates the ballpark’s history, its bricks, its ivy and, of course, its role in the goofy 1993 baseball comedy “Rookie of the Year.”

Really.

If Lincecum, the scrawny right-hander who throws harder than seems possible,  reminds you of 12-year-old Henry Rowengartner, well, Lincecum says there are good reasons for that.

“People used to call me ‘Rowengartner,’ or ‘Rosinbagger,’ ” Lincecum told Big League Stew after pulling a reverse-Rowengartner and downing the Cubs. “One of my favorite movies of all time was “Rookie of the Year,” with Henry Rowengartner and all that good stuff.”

As if Tiny Tim could get any cooler. (Well, maybe if he loved “Little Big League” instead — a much better film — he’d be a little cooler still.)

Before I ever actually followed baseball, I thought "Rookie of the Year" and "Angels in the Outfield" were two of the greatest movies of all time.

I wonder what Tim Lincecum looked like in HS, I mean he looks scrawy and wimpy today. Then you watch him throw and you almost #### yourself.

I think I saw somewhere recently that he was 4'11" and 95 pounds as a freshman in HS.

"Rookie of the year" is 16 years old, now, and the cubs have STILL not won a world series. That's awesome.

'rookie of the year' was awesome, particularly the mets slugger who drooled all over himself...he reminded me of brad fullmer. I remember once seeing fullmer step into the box, take his stance, spit in the toughest way possible except that he managed to get a giant loogie all over his right shoulder. By the time the pitch got to the plate, he was still trying to wipe it off his sleeve.
