Andy Pettitte was scratched from a start for the second time this spring, this time due to back spasms.
..."Thursday afternoon when I left here on my drive home, my back started locking up on me,” Pettitte said. “As the night progressed, it kind of got tighter and tighter. I called Joe and just let him know, and we said we’d just see how it progressed.”
The other start Pettitte missed this spring was due to minor left elbow tendonitis. That time, Girardi and Cashman said Pettitte would likely have pitched if it had been the regular season. The back spasms, on the other hand, would likely have knocked him out of a regular season game.
“Probably, because if you can’t have that freedom in your back to extend, then you worry about him hurting someone else,” Girardi said.
??...uhh...like you did to Roger Clemens?
