Yankees talking to Hawkins

I put a spiel on you
Because you’re almost mine

According to sources, the Yankee GM was in talks with the agent for free-agent righthander LaTroy Hawkins, one of the few relievers on the market who isn’t necessarily seeking a multiyear deal. The two sides have discussed a one-year pact in the range of $3.25 million-$3.5 million.

Hawkins, who turns 35 on Dec. 21, posted a 3.42 ERA in 62 appearances with the NL champion Rockies last season. Hawkins has drawn interest from other teams, including the Tigers, Orioles and Rangers.

..."We have some things that might have some legs to them, but whether they ever get completed or not, I can’t predict,” Cashman said. “There’s some limited choices in the relief market, trades and free agency, and almost no choices in the starting market.”

Kill me. They thought that Farnsworth couldn't handle it, but this guy, he'll do fine? Oy.

NTR Gary Sheffield: "See, Torre leaves and NOW the Yankees go after a black reliever".

NTR Kenny Lofton: "I can't really say much, but right on".

Last 2 years:

Oh, and last year he had a 9% swinging strike%. That's the same as 2007 Mike Mussina. Great evidence of good stuff.

I just threw up in my mouth.

yeah, he can't strike anyone out in the NL. The only FA relievers that ever work out are the truly dominant ones. Good pens always seem to be just luck with guys pulled from the minors.

"Hawkins, who turns 48 on Jan. 21, posted a 0.57 ERA in 6 postseason appearances with the NL champion Padres in 1984. Hawkins has drawn interest from other teams, including the Tigers, Cubs, and Astros."

See? Easy.

Maybe they're trying to sign Hawkins thinking he'll revert everything back to 2001 and Jason Giambi will be good again. They're also in talks with Tino Martinez and Scott Brosius.

No sense in bringing in Hawkins with Farnsworth unless you're going to complete the unholy trinity with.................. Jorge Julio.

Collect 'em all!

I'd add Armando Benitez, but he had too much success - plus the Yankees already tried that.

These suggestions are just Band-Aids in the grand scheme of things. The Yanks will never solve their problems until they bring back Sterling Hitchcock.

Sure, Mike Stanton would listen if Brian Cashman called.
