Brewers - Acquired Durham

Milwaukee Brewers - Acquired 2B Ray Durham from the San Francisco Giants for P Steve Hammond and OF Darren Ford.

Reality sets in for Brian Sabean's Giants as it turns out that Aaron Rowand isn't a good enough player for Sabean's usual plan of "Have Huge Star, Build Mediocre Team Around Them, Hide Under Pile of Coats and Hope Everything Turns Out Fine." Durham's quietly having a nice little season and should prove useful for the Brewers and both Hammonds and Ford are very marginal prospects. Weeks is still the Brewers' long-term hope, but they're in the middle of a pennant race and wrist problems can hamper even very talented players for a long-time (see Cliff Floyd way back when). If he's not hitting well, Weeks's defense becomes tough to stomach and while Durham's defense looks like someone being beat to death with a butternut squash (TRANSACTION ORACLE SIMILE-METAPHOR MACHINE BROKEN), he's bringing some offense to the table.

Let me be the first to predict 2 of those 4 HRs will be against the Cubs.

I'll endorse that prediction, as your predictions vis a vis the Cubs and Brewers always turn out so accurately.

The only current Cubs pitchers Durham has hit very well are Dempster and Wood. On July 2 he hit a 3-run shot off Marmol.

How will this affect his Hall of Fame chances?

Durham's career performance against the Chicago Cubs will have little bearing on his Hall of Fame chances, as it is not representative of his career as a whole. Moreover, his career performance, though noteworthy, falls somewhat short of even the minimum threshold for consideration.

Weeks is hitting 263/440/526 since the all-star break.

As for my predictions #2. My prophecy on the 7/8 Rich Harden traded to Cubs thread:

Zambrano
Wood
Marmol
Harden

Each have arms hanging by a thread. It is a long season.

So far, I am off to a quick start. Wood (out). Marmol (showing serious signs of fatigue). It is a long season indeed.

So "blister" = "arm hanging by a thread". Yeah, you're feckin' Nostradamus.

Again, call me when Parra or Sheets makes it through an entire season healthy.

I will, however, give you credit for your "long season" prophecy, as the season is, in fact, still 162 games long.

Oh, and your Zambrano prediction's looking a little shaky. 5 runs allowed in 3 starts since his DL stint. And Harden's looking, uh, not too bad.

Weeks is still the Brewers' long-term hope

Perhaps not, with Escobar likely to need a place to play soon. I expect Weeks to be traded.

MWE,

I'd rank JJ as slightly more likely to get traded.

Although I'd personally deal Weeks over JJ, slide JJ over to 2nd and aim for a superb D in the middle. I think the Brewers hope they can turn JJ, or Weeks, into a starter on the caliber of Parra/Gallardo. I think that is possible.

How many legit SS are there in baseball? Maybe 15? How many are also a little above average with the bat like JJ? I'd say less than 5. JJ is underrated.
