Jay Howell comp!

The Giants home network replayed the top 10 fan favorite games over the franchise history, and I believe no less than three involved Jay Howell getting torched in the ninth inning (twice with the Dodgers, once with the Braves). Good times!

A friend of mine said, "That's two Brewers/Gagne moves!"

He's right. Gags had a much better pedigree than Wood, and at 1/$10 million, he was looked at as overpriced.

I know what closers get, but that's a lot of moolah for a dice roll.

yeah but gagne has been way more prone to blow leads then wood has. hell you couldnt even put gagne in in the 9th he was sure to blow it this last year

I think there was a pretty good post that would dispute this.

Only if there's some definition of pedigree that specifically ignores the fact that 2007 Gagne bore no resemblance to the pitcher he was before the injuries.

This is the third game that you mentioned. I don't think that allowing two inherited runners to score via a couple of sacrifice flies really qualifies as getting torched, though.

I don't think its that bad a deal actually. The closers market is always going to be pretty inflated, but a short term deal like this probably won't hurt the Indians much if Wood turns into a DL-resident.

And his home is near their spring training facility, so when he rehabs, he's close to home! It all works out!

I really wish the headline read:

Indians Get Wood For 2 Years

Sophmoric, I know....
