Is Jacque Jones on the Langerhans comp list or was Jacque just enough better?

Two man offense? Ouch. ZIPS Rest-Of-Season projections for a few Mariner hitters.

Ichiro: .320/.364/.409, .351 wOBA
Branyan: .259/.354/.512, .377 wOBA
Lopez: .278/.308/.421, .316 wOBA
Gutierrez: .259/.322/.405, .322 wOBA
Griffey: .241/.345/.399, .333 wOBA

League average wOBA for a hitter playing half his games at Safeco is around .325 or so. So, yes, the M's only have two good hitters, but they have three average-ish hitters as well. Toss in Langerhans, who is another average-ish hitter, and all of the sudden the line-up isn't as terrible as you might think.

Do we know that Langerhans hasn't lost a step on D - the Nats have played him at more rightward spots on the defensive spectrum than his rep/previous_skills would suggest. OTOH, they have considerations at hand beyond winning AAA ballgames plus, well, they are the Nats.

Given the hand Jack Zdurien...Zduren...Jones was dealt

What makes this funny is that it came from Szymborski.

I think there were reports that Rizzo traded Langerhans as a favor to give him a chance to play. Morse is probably AAA depth for the corners, maybe he comes up if there's an infield injury and Bellylard has to play too much. Morse isn't a terrible hitter, especially going to the easier league, he could be an ok bench player if his fielding was acceptable. Too bad the M's wouldn't take Kearns and cash.

does anyone else have a constant inner monologue that says 'langerhans' in the same voice as that simpsons episode where homer joins a union at the power plant and lobbies for a new dental plan.

Does two good hitters and four average hitters make an offense? I reckon maybe. You'd need some awesome D and pitching to go with it to contend.
