His OPS this season was .490.
GABOR!
The Bako comments on this thread -- or extra base hits by Bako in 2007?
With this comment, we've already surpassed what ZiPS projects.
Williamson was a low cost gamble. Bradford is a good signing if you ignore the fact that they've already signed Baez and Walker.
The comment I made when the Cubs were adding bullpen arms last winter applies here, I think, which is: A good bullpen on this team is like a nice rack on a warthog.
In one of the recent O's threads (such as they are) I asked David N. if he still had an O's blog, and mentioned that we need more good O's blogs than bad.
When I was thinking "bad," I was thinking Orioles Hangout.
I haven't really gotten into the O's fare at MVN (all-baseball has a pretty good nats blog), and Bird in the Belfry doesn't do it for me.
An Orioles' TO is about as good as it gets, actually. Yay, D-Syzzle.
What a scam.
Nothing is worse than the fan comments on the Sun webpage. Reading them is almost as depressing as being a fan of this team.
There are a few people who post comments on the Sun's Orioles blog who say intelligent things. Most of them don't though. But the blog itself is good.
Paying to post OH really irked me but I guess they have ever right to charge money if it suits them. It's definitely the most visited O's fansite. Overall, I like it, mostly because you can find a huge thread on any topic O's topic in a very short time. A lot of posters there are waaay to optimistic about the O's. They do NOT like the word firesale or least they didn't like it last summer when I used to visit there regularly. Let me put in a plug for camdenchat.com. Unfortunately, the site doesn't get a lot of traffic in comparison to OH but I hope that changes!
Except that when TM (you know who I mean) says that the Orioles now have the best bullpen in the AL, it's amazing how many of the more intelligent ones agree with him.
I'm not sure who you mean. If by "best" that person means "most unnecessarily expensive," then the Orioles have the best bullpen by far.
At the same time, I'm okay with their approach toward the bullpen. First, if the moves fail and they're out of it by June, they have some valuable trade chips. A lot of people have presented the argument that they should construct their bullpen on the cheap with guys from within the system, like teams such as the A's and Twins. Those people forget, though, that the O's player development record is awful, and so the bullpen guys they would be promoting from within would be awful. Exhibit A: The 2006 season.
A. Brings back fond memories of countering the exact same nonsense on asbbo and OH over the last ten years; nothing like being proven right over and over to boost that old ego.
B. Provides a laugh at the persistence of delusional thinking, as well as convincing evidence that there are plenty of fools around who are easy marks if eveer you need the cash.
The other Oriole sites offering better content than OH include Camden Chat and Oriole Magic.
Among all of the evil people in this ugly world, Peter is the only human I've ever openly wished death upon, and it can't come soon enough.
besides, his sons will inherit the team and probably be even worse. I'd rather he just sell the team.
Why not? Unless he's REALLY evil, death will visit him as it visits everyone. You want him to be the *exception*? :)
Good question, D-Szyzzle. Maybe it's the Hangouters that are actually the true Oriole fans, now?
The rest of us are merely scarred observers? I am also half-rooting for an apocalyptically horrible 2007 Orioles season, just to see what may happen in the wake of 10 straight losing seasons. A seismic shakeup or more of the same?
It's almost as if another ~75-win season, or even an 82-85 win season, would be worse than an awful 60-win smoking crater. A modest winning season means the FO might think they are on the right track.
Perhaps, like Gollum (the physical resemblance is there), he has some unexpected and unwitting act of good in him.
Peter Schmuck takes some swipes at evil Pete in today's Sun.
