In a vacuum, I like the signing. But not being in Hooverville, they would have been much better off in at-least offering Burrell arbitration first.
I think the positives here are a good player who is signed to reasonable dollars for three years with the negative being an old man who must play the field sucking up $10M for three years with declining production and no 1st round pick to replenish their system this year.
The positives of having Burrell would have been very similar, with the added positive of maybe getting an extra 1st/2nd rounder plus compensation pick if he refused and the deal only being one year if he accepted.

A real head scratcher.

I have no idea what #2 is.

Less importantly, better the Phils than the Cubs.

This transaction made me Laugh Out Loud

If this is really the best thing the defending WS champs could have done with $30M we are doomed as a nation-state. They could have bought every Philly resident a small trophy instead and it would have made more sense.

Just having the Braves not sign him would have been great enough but this is pretty awesome.

If this is going to be a new rule, I say we just ban Czechs from ever playing MLB and get it over with. I'm not dealing with that ####.

Forget the Czechs. What of the Japanese?

So obviously confusing there's nothing really to say. Helps the team, but in about the least amount possible for someone of Ibanez's skill-set.

At least the defense won't be a big deal in CBP.

Well, if we're going to get all technical, it's Ibáñez...without the accent, it would be pronounced ee-bahn-YES

Would Burrell have made more than $12 million in arb if he accepted?
Is it possible the Phils didn't offer him arbitration as a personal favor so he would be more attractive to other teams?

No, it most assuredly is not.
