Was there a projection for Heilman when he was dealt? If so was he figured to start a few games?

It seems to me that we are seeing more minor signings early than usual.

Ross got a two year deal with the Braves last year, as well. Of course, Ross can hit a little, so it made more sense; additionally they were traumatized by the awfulness that was (and presumably still is) Corky Miller, and thus the prospect of an actual, real-live baseball player backing up McCann was rather enticing.

If his defense is near as good as it was a few years ago, this is a good signing for a team that apparently has some money to burn.

I suspect the two year deal is for the same reason I locked in my low interest rates. Lock in low salaries while you can before things go back to Insane Darren Dreifort Numbers again!
