On a side note, I apologize for the lack of completeness of signing updates.

I don't see how any of us can complain about quality of the service we are getting for free.
Here's wishing good health to you in 2010.

Feel better big guy.

Dumb question: what does the DR to the right of OPS+ signify?
Defensive runs saved or something? Positive UZR projection? As in +10 runs?

New to the internet are you?

Thanks for the kind wishes, but it wasn't any serious ailment and I'm not dying or anything. I just had a really bad case of the seasonal flu, which is pretty unusual for me.

I haven't been paying much attention lately, and this is the first time I've seen the terms of the deal. I am very excited about getting Beltre on a 1-year deal. I'd like the Sox to go after some of the big names next offseason, and was worried that signing several mid-tier players this year would preclude that.

Thanks for the TO. Dan. Hope you feel better. Was extremely interested to see your take on the deal. ZiPS is the only projection whose park adjustments I really trust.

Apparently the Phillies, and another team offered him 3 years/$24 million. Wonder why the Red Sox didn't offer a similar contract?

#12 - I would not be shocked if they gave him his choice of a contract like that or the one year reestablish yourself deal that he took.

As a Sox fan, I was totally prepared to see a 3/36 announcement or even more. I really like Beltre's game and think he's a great fit. I would have been very happy to see a deal like that, in fact. 1/9 is such a steal its absurd. His defense alone will be worth 9 million (or at least it would in previous years, not sure how much the Holliday deal changed it, but the cost of a win in free agency dropped this offseason, and estimates were as low as 3.5M / win - but again, we've seen a few big deals go down since then.)
