I've always been a fan of Jim Bowden

- Dan Szymborski

Thank you, internet, for allowing me this pointless moment of amusement.

Given that the Brewers were stuck with the silly Grissom contract, this was probably the best they could get for Grissom.' Ideally, they'd just take White's 900K buyout option, but this is Milwaukee, so they'll probably extend him another 3 years and ask him if he knows Chuckie Carr's phone number.

It's funny cause... it's just funny.

I think Bowden was a good GM through about 2000 or so. At this point, he had picked up Sean Casey essentially for free, drafted Kearns and Dunn, and absolutely robbed Dmitri Young from the Cardinals.

While it was kinda crappy what he did to Shaw, turning a middle reliever into a proven closer and stealing Konerko and Reyes from the Dodgers for him was a terrific move and when the Reds had a logjam at 1B, he was perceptive enough to move Konerko for Cameron instead of sitting on redundant talent.

I've been wrong about plenty of things, but I maintain that through 8 and a half years ago, Bowden was a good GM, albeit one with a massive, obnoxious ego.

Arizona Diamondbacks
- Signed 1B Desi to a minor-league contract.
The sad thing is, I was about to write "Who? Doesn't matter, call him up and DFA Tony Clark."
The black hole at 1B has been shockingly huge and shockingly deep this year

Wow, I had forgotten that Deion Sanders and Sid Fernandez were still getting shots as late as 2001.
