I think I'd take the over on those ZiPS.
If you want to bet $100 that Sheff exceeds both ZIPS targets (433 AB and 836 OPS) I'll be happy to take the other side of it.
Clever of Cashman to step in and snatch the youngsters. Would have hated to see promising young pitchers in Phillie uniforms.
And boy, I couldn't have been more wrong about the value of Sheff's contract. I thought it would have been really foolish of the Yanks to pick up that option and try to trade him. I thought they'd get dimes on the dollar. I think I really underestimated how crazy this market is compared to previous ones. In this market, I wonder what Manny will bring back? He's younger and generally healthier than Sheffield, a little better as a hitter, on a shorter deal, but costs more. They both are considered to have baggage. I wonder if Boston could have had this same deal and if they would have taken it.
A little bit? HA! In the last 7 years, Manny has been better 5 times. In those 7 years, Over that time period including the years Sheffield was better Manny has produced 25% more RCAA. They aren't remotly similar hitter.
As MHS already said, Manny is a much, much better hitter. I bet the perception is that Manny is much worse on D, but I don't think they're that far apart.
