Well, this is the best move the Twins could reasonably be expected to make right now....so hurray, I guess. Pavano at least seems like a legitimate upgrade over at least of couple of the other starters, so it might even work out well. Actually, I've got a nagging suspicion that he's going to look pretty good the rest of the way, moving to the Metrodome and adding some defense behind him and likely playing against a lot of patsies the rest of the way. He might not really be that good, but he'll look good superficially.

He'll hardly push the Twins into a playoff spot, however. Personally, I think you can put a fork in them for this season.

Well, the Twins certainly look dead in the water, don't they. Their only hope is really their schedule the rest of the way...it's notably easier than Detroit or Chicago. If they can breath some life into themselves shortly, they've still got a real shot....the first step is to not get swept in Detroit this weekend. The next step is to learn to beat KC and Cleveland regularly.

As a White Sox fan, I've learned to never count the Twins out. Somehow, some way, they'll be in the race up until the end. I just know it.

Pavano has thrown 125 innings this year? wow.

Are you saying that Joe Mauer's mere presence will make Pavano pitch good?

Something will happen. The ball will bounce the Twins' way 17 times in a row.

This is the last chance for the dome to ruin a postseason. That means the Twins are going to the World Series.

O/T but there's no Oracle on any of the trade deadline deals? If so, where?

A homestand vs. KC and Cleveland is just what the Dr. ordered!

Oh, what? 12-1 KC?

Fork, indeed.

What would the Twins look like with Bartlett and Garza? Anybody?

I feel we covered this very well in the live chat. I'm very wordy in chats and I'd just be repeating things I've already written, so I'd rather spend time talking about new things and getting some sabermetric work in.

The sad thing is that given how Young has played this season, releasing Bartlett and Garza might have been a better move.
