So the Yankees acquire a backup thirdbaseman after A-Rod's return. figures

They probably got him so A-rod can back up Jeter more regularly at short.

I don't see much good in this for the Yanks. He's their 27th corner-OF-DH-1B, but he will provide some small amount of depth, I guess. I really don't see the point for the Pirates, who don't even get salary relief.

Wow, the Pirates are really rocking the house with trades today. Between the trade with the Nationals and this trade, I can only imagine Pirates fans clogging the phone lines for tickets...moving deck chairs on the Titanic, is all it is...

WTF do you think they're getting for Nyjer Morgan and Eric Hinske?

Milledge and Hannrahan have pretty nice upside. It's exactly the type of trade Pitt should be doing; use fungible pieces to acquire lottery tickets.

Have the Pirates become the 21st Century version of the Kansas City Athletics?
Word has it that the Pirates are even paying half of Hinske's remaining salary.
What do the Pirates get out of this? Have the Pirates made a trade int he last few years where they are clearly the team that did better?

What? Nady and Marte for Ohlendorf, Karstens, McCutchen, and Tabata isn't a clear win? A corner outfielder who posted a 105 OPS+ last year and is out for this season and a reliever who's been awful for the Yankees for a useful starter, a couple pieces of depth, and a top 100 prospect?

It's a win for the Pirates, but it's also a "Who cares?" kind of win, at least for now. Tabata is young enough to change that, but none of the other guys are real game changers. The Pirates have never come close to a Bagwell for Larry Anderson or even David Justice for Ricky Ledee type deal.

By the way, saw Tike Redman playing CF and leading off for an Indy team last night.
