Roster Crunch

Yankees RHP Carl Pavano allowed three unearned runs and four hits in five innings for Single-A Tampa in a minor league rehabilitation start on Sunday. It was his second outing since being sidelined by a bruised left buttocks in spring training, and Pavano might rejoin the Yankees’ rotation by early June.

Great news, Pavano says his bum bum feels all better now.  With him and Dotel due back in a few weeks, who goes down?

The obvious answer is Small for Pavano, but what about Dotel?  Will Joe stand by his Tanyon?  Could would they really send down Proctor just because he has options left, even though he has been much more effective?

Dotel = Karsay.

An somewhat effective/healthy Karsay would have made a big difference the last couple of years. Dotel is expected to be the linchpin of the bullpen, right? Karsay was too.

As well, is my memory faulty are have the Yankee starters been decent? All I remember was playing Wang and Chacon in my fantasy league team and they prevented me from gaining any ground. Since I drop them, I believe they have been pitching well despite the final scores of the game.

I think even Steve Karsay is better than Tanyon Sturtze right now.

That's a trifle cynical on Dotel, but I do think that both he and Pavano are problems with a "cross that bridge when we come to it" kind of feeling

Yankees' starters have a 4.08 ERA so far this season, 3rd in the AL and 8th in MLB.

In the last 14 games, the starters have had an ERA of 3.40. In games the Yankees have won, the starters have a 3.06 ERA, in games they've lost, a 6.03 ERA.

Some other stats I've been fiddling with:

The Yankees' offense is about 53% of their team, and has been responsible for 55% of their victories, and just barely under half their losses, based on the efficiency of their run scoring and prevention.

The Yankees' offense has accounted for 9.8 wins and 5.5 losses, their pitching for 8.2 wins and 5.5 losses.

Will Joe stand by his Tanyon?

At this point, I think "Sturtze" is German for "Torre" and that Tanyon is Joe's illegitimate son.

Sturze would have to clear waivers to get to Columbus right? Would they DFA Villone?

I'll go out on a limb and guess that he'd clear.

Would they DFA Villone?

I don't think Cashman is that dumb.

He did sign Damon.

He did sign Damon.

Yeah, but to the best of my knowledge, he never had sex with his boss. Dear God, I hope he didn't.

I haven't heard a thing about Villone's work. His numbers look great, but he seems to not get much work. What's the story with him?
   12. rLr Has A Structured Settlement, Needs Cash Now Posted: May 07, 2006 at 09:22 PM (#2009501)
Villone has done a fine job whenever he's come in, but he's not one of Joe's guys, so he only gets to pitch the last couple of innings in blowouts. Sturtze needs to be reserved for pressure situation.

when is dotel expected back? has he even started throwing?

Dotel is expected back around the end of the month or early June.

He has started throwing, after a brief setback. The reports I've seen have him coming back in June.

That is what I am saying, the obvious choice is Tanyon, but he is one of Joe's guys.

Actually, The soft tossing giraffe will probably need to go on the DL by the time Dotel is ready.

I think he'd make an angry snarling face and talk his way into staying on the roster and in the rotation, putting up 6 inning, 5 run outings every five days.

And winning all of them.

More like "with Giambi winning all of them."

I hate "Joe's Guys". I bet I can field a pretty crappy team with every one of Joe's Guys the last two years. Starting with Sturtze and Bernie. Joe's Guys suck.

If you ever run into Clay Bellinger then watch out because he's going to pummel you.
