The BTF Great 28 Simulation

The Diamond Mind league has been built and the following 28 teams are all set to duke it out over 1000 simulated seasons.  Post 1973 AL teams will have the DH rule at home.  I am planning on saving the standings, batting register and pitching register for each run.  If you have other reports you’d be interested in seeing, let me know.

1905 Giants
1906 Cubs
1909 Pirates
1910 A’s
1912 Red Sox
1927 Yanks
1929 A’s
1939 Yanks
1942 Cards
1946 Red Sox
1948 Indians
1953 Yanks
1954 Indians
1955 Dodgers
1961 Yanks
1967 Cards
1968 Tigers
1970 Orioles
1974 A’s
1975 Reds
1978 Yanks
1984 Tigers
1986 Mets
1989 A’s
1995 Indians
1998 Braves
1998 Yanks
2001 Mariners

Before I start, I’d like ask for volunteers to help set up the manager profiles and lineups/pitching staffs for the teams.  If a team does not get a volunteer, I will use Diamond Mind’s set up.  So far I have:

1975 Reds - Greg Tamer
1998 Yanks - SG in ATL

Post your interest in “managing” a team in this thread and I will contact you with what I need.

I love seeing players play against themselves.

My 86 Mets are absolutely useless on offense. Strawberry 1998 is killing Strawberry 1986.

I wonder how long this will continue.

Wow, they really are. How does Keith Hernandez of the .283 SLP have 9 RBI?

1989 A's: Stolen Bases

R Henderson: 1 attempt, 0 steals
McGwire: 4 attempts, 4 steals

?!?!?!?!?!?!?

And Mickey Lolich is the only player on the 68 Tigers who has tried to steal a base. He didn't make it.

If ANYONE besides Ruth and Gehrig could hit a little, the '27 Yanks would be running away. The pitching has been very good.

Looking at the standings, I think my Red Sox are the victims of "deadball ear bias".

The A's and Cubs are struggling too.

When do you plan on finishing this one simulation SG? I don't mean that in a baiting way, I'm genuinely curious.
   313. SG in ATL Posted: February 21, 2006 at 10:34 PM (#1871074)
I was going to try and finish by the end of spring training. I could do it quicker than that but I don't want to rush it for the people that don't check the site every day.
   314. Dewitty_Pun Posted: February 21, 2006 at 11:04 PM (#1871097)
If you do decide to run it parrallel to the season, it should be in the format of a weekly feature, in the format of Dialed in and Digging in the Astrodirt. I loved those articles along with Cooperstown Confidential (the one surviving featured article), the biweekly reports, and Sam Hutchensen's (or however his name is spelled) fanboyish articles about the Braves.

Nah, just a crappy manager. The Jint's are doing fine, leading the league in RS and differential.

Wow, the 1910 A's are playing like you would expect deadball era hitters to play, no regular over .700 OPS, fewer than 3 RPG...but, their pitching is terrible too-Coombs and Chief Bender both over 6 ERA.

This is really cool, I just found the link, too bad the Phillies in their 125 year history couldn't produce one team worthy of the Great 28.

Like a stone the Cubs are dropping. Eyeballing those RS/RA numbers tells me they're underplaying their pythag by a couple of games, but still. What's with Johnny Kling and his .364 OPS - he's supposed to be the good hitting catcher?

If this were the 2006 Cubs, they'd have to send Kling to AAA and start badmouthing him in the press as a lazy malcontent.

That has to be a nominee for game of the year. Seattle comes back from an 8-2 hole, rallies to tie it, scratches out a run in the 14th, Yankees come back with Chambliss, Seattles gets two runs in the 15th, Yankees come back to score, with Chambliss again the hero. That's reallty something

When Rickey Henderson has as many stolen bases as Carney Lansford - and fewer attempts - I tend to agree that screwiness is the order of the day.

And then there's the other NY National League club. The very definition of a dead ball club and manager is averaging over 7 runs a game.
