Having Mark Teahen didn't dissuade the Royals from drafting Alex Gordon. You should never draft based on positional needs at the Major League level, because the situation will change quite a bit by the time the draftee sticks in the big leagues.
That being said, I'm still leaning towards Porcello because he sounds like a very polished high school kid with terrific stuff. But I wouldn't be disappointed at all if they took Wieters. I'm of a mixed opinion on Vitters - not really sure if his bat is really worth the #2 pick. And I'll throw a fit if they take Detwiler.
As AG#1F said, nothing at all. Wieters (unless he signs a major league contract) isn't going to force the issue any time soon.
Having said that: The #1 priority for this organization should be drafting as many live arms as possible. The Royals don't have enough pitchers in the organization who miss bats on a consistent basis.

I cast my vote for Porcello. Not that anyone's counting.
(1) He seems like a sure thing. Power hitters are much more likely to translate to success in the big leagues than high school pitchers. Plus, he's done it in a wood bat league too.
(2) I'd have no problem giving him a MLB contract, as opposed to Porcello
(3) By the time he reaches the big leagues, Buck will likely be in his FA year
(4) His defense is supposedly outstanding
(5) This draft is deep on high upside high school pitching we can take in rounds 2-5.
(6) Wieters will be up by 2008-2009 while Porcello won't be up until 2011-2012. For a franchise hurting like this, that does make a difference.
I fully endorse the drafting of Wieters. I think Porcello would be a decent pick, but with much more risk, and I'm not sure we can afford that much risk.
He's been tagged "special" by Boras...I stone cold guarantee he gets a Major League deal.
