Royals/Red Sox game, April 4
[BBTF Game Chatter thread]
Just a few observations:
--There were a loooot of Red Sox fans, particularly where I was at (Third base side, lower deck, toward foul pole). But near the concessions, everyone was yelling at a man in a Yankees hat and jersey—finally, something we can all agree on.
--As the game got futher out of hand, my friend and I were talking more with the girl working as an usher and the dude that sells the hot chocolate (it was cooooold). Folks who work at the ballpark are cool.
--Lowell’s two errors (I missed his third and last one, so I can’t speak to it) looked more like minor mistakes that snowballed on him. He got his glove on stuff, he just couldn’t transfer it to a strong throw.
--The Royals couldn’t convert a run-scoring situation to save their lives.
--The Sox should have had about two more home runs—I think the cold air saved Odalis Perez a little extra embarrassment. They were killing the ball in general. A lot of great thwacks.
--Ross Gload did very well at first, saving Alex Gordon from making an error and making a fine foul ball play, among other things.
--Emil Brown did pretty well out in left. He made several plays backpedaling, which I always thought he struggled with.
--Mark Teahen made a great diving play to save a double. With more speed, he would have been able to have made the out, but a fine play regardless. Overall, he’s shown a strong throwing arm, good coordination and diving/gloving, even if he lacks a real strong first step.
--The Royals have all this plate discipline, from the top to the bottom of the order. It’s kinda weird, but very encouraging.
Not very good pictures. Hopefully, I’ll have better ones from tomorrow’s game. Dice-K, Greinke, and Gordon will be my focusing points.
The pictures:
--Mark Grudzielanek, Tony Pena Jr., Alex Gordon
--Mike Lowell’s first error
--Lowell’s second error, immediately following the first
--I don’t know which Royal this is (my apologies), but I can tell you that it’s Josh Beckett looking in
--The fact that signs like these work better than a full count is embarrassing to me
--I couldn’t get the actual play by Gload, so I caught the replay on the board—I’m impressed by defense this year, except (A) Gordon’s and (B) Teahen has looked slightly iffy, but nothing major
--Highlighted in red, the coolest things in any major league ball park; at the bottom right, there is the most annoying thing in any major league ball park
--Yet another scoring situation the Royals couldn’t capitalize on

Manny Ramirez is the most annoying thing?
It's probably just me, but YEAH!
Don't take it personally. Think of it as a badge of honor that you don't need a sign to know when to get loud.
