Boston’s Best Baseball Writer Headed to the Herald

According to a Boston Sports Media report, Rob Bradford is heading to the Herald. No news yet about what this will mean for his excellent Bradford on Baseball blog, but I’m guessing it will continue to operate the same way. It’s encouraging that a guy who has gone out of his way to avoid the BS that often overwhelms all aspects of sports writing and focus on real baseball content is getting hired to a much more high profile position.

Here’s a recent piece by Bradford on Why Papelbon’s fastball is so effective:

And through it all, Papelbon had the advantage of a delivery that immediately puts hitters at a disadvantage. When he releases the pitch, it is directly out in front of his body, which (especially with a white uniform) often makes the hitters lose the ball for a valuable split second.

Yet another reason (as if we needed one) to forsake the bright Red uniforms. There’s also a lot of good stuff in that article about how they worked on Papelbon’s delivery this spring.
