However, this club's focus every year of the Theo era is the major prize and that's where the FO has once again taking a longer term view for this season.
BTW, wasn't Paps struggling or is that all past us now? A nice 4 out, 2K on 10 pitches save tonight...very, very effective.
Good job Tito, Theo.
Swings and misses on the fastball for the first time in weeks, or so it seemed. Touched 97 on the gun, too. Maybe he just had a dead arm period recently?
The depth of this club this year was amazing.
Or maybe, just maybe, you were all pissing your pants just a little bit.
Just sayin....
When you look back it is amazing what the team has accomplished in the face of many obstacles...
But it has been a ride that has given me the shits for the most part.
Fun to watch the Yanks win meaninglessly, including a blown call at the plate.
Take that back. It's never fun to watch them win.
Oh no, this one was fun.
You're a big huge weenie-geek.
Wake deserves a payoff roster spot as the long guy/jumper cable.
A truer thing was never spoken before. This is like last year when yee all were losing faith when NY go to within 2 games and I fired a rocket up everyone's arse to stop wetting yourselves.
Face it, the FO and manager know what they are doing. 2 titles should get you all to shut the f*ck up and calm down.
We are the 800 pound gorilla in the playoffs room, everyone else had better watch out.
1967, 1975, 1986, 1988, 1990, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008.
13th time since I was conceived. Each time's still a pretty big deal to me.
/sniff-sniff
Where was the 800-lb gorilla in 05?
Bah! Wake was wearing the same catheter the Burt Reynolds uses in Semi-Tough!
I was dissapointed Tito didn't have Timlin on the bump for the last out. :-)
Well, maybe not.
I hope ESPN gets that memo.
thanks, man. if i can help even one person keep their pants dry for even just a few games, then i have made the world a better place.
so let's all say it together: "we pee in the potty, and not in our pants!"
no more diapers forever!
No reason to get snarky about it mate. My point is that yourself and a few others made a couple of bad outings by paps sound like the downfall of the roman empire. We were just trying to point out that some of you tend to overreact a little quickly and need to have a bit of faith in both the management and performanceof the players at the club.
They've built a juggernaught since 2003 and I for one am pretty effing happy about it. Like tfbg9, I watched this team f*ck it up since the 60's and now they've finally got it right. As for 2005, you can't expect to win it all every year. I'm more then happy to win it every 3-4 years.
I hope he gets it.
Right now if I had to be my house on it, I'd still stick with our guys.
How is my comment any snarkier than suggesting that someone is wetting himself? If you're going to say such things, you've got to have thicker skin when people reply in kind. Seriously, what do you think an appropriate response to "you're a pantspisser" is? (I'm giving you and Pie Hole the benefit of the doubt and assuming such comments are meant in good fun--which is how my replies were meant.)
I don't see how I made it sound that dire. I said it was a concern and something that I hoped they would work on. I also acknowledged that it might just be a "blip." I have faith in the club but I don't think they're infallible.
Yep, Piehole and I are always taking the piss out of you mate.
I've got the thickest skin you'd can ever want, and its right where its needed.
All kidding aside, I suppose Piehole and myself just don't seem to get to concerned as easily as you do. But seriously, the postings about paps sounded a little dire, whereas myself and quite a few others just figured the bloke is human and is entitled to a few bad outings. Sure the peripherals were leaning that way also, but that was screaming small sample size, so I tend to disregard those things.
Now if you want to discuss something dire, how's Drew's progress going? Lowell?
My tirade on coco today in chatter should confirm that....
Some people shot it to sell its gall bladder in Chinatown
Meh. Division title or not, we're better than they are. And we're better than the Angels, and I look forward to beating them in the playoffs yet again.
I've had them for a long time!! Courtesy of being a Souths fan since May 23, 1975.
you get the shits when things are actually going bad. you piss your pants when you only think they are.
and yes, darren is right. all in slightly inappropriate good fun. if you saw me watching games at home you'd think i was a pants pisser too. :)
It's unfortunate that we couldn't catch Tampa since they're going to get to play whoever actually wins the AL Central instead of the Angels. Of course I don't think the Angels wanted to play the Red Sox in the first round either, especially given how those playoff series have gone historically.
I'm feeling pretty good about this matchup, despite the drubbing we took from them in the regular season. You know the last couple postseason meetings are going to be in the back of their minds. If the Angels drop the first game of the series at home, I think they'll have some mental obstacles to overcome in addition to the other team on the field.
They should make each round best of 7 and just seed the silly thing 1-4.
Everybody seems to assume that the Angels are some sort of unstoppable worldbeater, and the Central champ a collection of hapless putzes:
BBPro W3 winning %
-------------------
Angels .522
Chisox .544
Twinks .510
The Angels' strategy has to involve winning all the close games (via their closer), or else they will have a very short October.

The #3/4 starter missed the entire season.
The #5 should have.
The #6 made ~a dozen starts.
The #7 was moved to the bullpen.
The pen was remarkably healthy, but remarkably inconsistent. (They finished above average for the year, and most of their dreck doesn't pitch anymore.)
And there was Manny.
A wild year.
Geez mate, that's some seriously dire barracking going on. I was a Norths fan, but alas they turfed them out. Now, believe it or not, I'm a Storm fan(he says ducking...) Just couldn't bring myself to support another Sydney side or a Queensland team.
