Minor league signings

According to Horrigan in the Herald, the Sox unveiled eight minor-league signings: Joe McEwing, Kerry Robinson, Alberto Castillo, Travis Hughes, Jeff Bailey, Luis Jimenez, Ed Rogers, Bobby Scales. They get invites to spring training with the big club.

Not sure what to say here. More detail on these guys in this MLB.com article. Travis Hughes actually looks pretty interesting to me. Maybe he’s the new closer! ;-)

Hughes has two good major league pitches (FB/SL), but struggles with command and his change is lousy. Also, his mechanics and weight are inconsistent. Still, he's a great pickup.

None of these guys are likely to show up on the major league roster.

Also, per the Boston.com, the Red Sox signed Runelvys Hernandez today.

I'm assuming he'll be the 8th starter.

I always liked Bobby Scales, even though he was a Michigan grad. Decent walk totals.

Throw a ninth signing onto the list: Runelvys Hernandez.

He looked like a good prospect a few years ago. Decent gamble I guess.

Hughes looks like he could be interesting anyways.
