Minor League Thread: Almanzar Living Up to the Hype

I always have a tough time getting excited about the signing of 16-year-old Dominican players because, even if they’re great, you’re not likely to see them in the Majors for 6-7 years. That’s why Carlos Michael Almanzar’s signing last year did little for me. But he’s certainly making a big impression this year. Almanzar’s .348/.414/.472 line in the GCL was apparently impressive enough for the Sox to skip him to Class A Greenville. There, he’s gone 5/16 with a triple. Good contact so far, but not much power. He’s still a long way from the Majors, but it’s sure fun to have a young guy doing so well.

His son is pretty good too.

You mean Michael Almanzar? Carlos is... older.

Edit: I didn't know they were related. Neat!

Definitely a player to watch. I've never followed a Sox prospect from signing to stardom, I hope Michael will allow me the opportunity.

The Sox signed Carlos Almanzar last year, most likely just for the leg in signing his son.

Whoops. Yeah him. I guess I'm out of practice. Heh heh. (blush)

Link to a Youtube video of a Lars Anderson single from today's game.

If you follow the link and then click on my username (templeusox), you will see a bunch of other videos I took and posted from this weekend's series with the Sea Dogs and Thunder.

Pressing the "watch in high quality" button makes a significant difference.
