Pairs of Sox, Part 2: Coco and Lugo

Continuing with our player pairs, albeit under a much cheesier title, we move now to the speedy portion of the lineup. Both Coco Crisp and Julio Lugo started off this season horribly. Both now appear to be on the road to recovery, however. Crisp struggled badly until he and hitting coach Dave Magadan reworked his swing around June 15. His new upright stance seems to have made a bit of a difference:

Before June 15: 223/280/295
Since June 15: 356/416/624

Lugo also stunk it up, but for much longer than Coco did and much worse as well. It seemed that in addition to his poor hitting, he was also the victim of pretty bad luck. He took a couple of days off at the beginning of July and also reportedly worked with Magadan. He’s also comeback strong, although there doesn’t seem to be any change in his stance:

Before July 1: 190/256/283
Sine July 1: 400/450/581

Both of these guys have had major turnarounds after working with Magadan, which I think has to say a lot for Magadan. If Coco and Lugo can continue their turnaround, and JD Drew actually hits for some power as he did today, even this team won’t be able to avoid scoring a bunch of runs.

I wonder what went through Lugo's head when he hit that grand slam. I have a feeling his wife maxed out his credit card.

I think they might be coming around.

When Lugo hit the double his second time up today, the 200 SoSH members in attendance burst into a chant of "MVP!! MVP!! MVP!!"

A proud, proud moment in the history of the group.
