Red Sox NewsBeat

I could use some help. I’m working on a long-discussed project&em;the creation of team news pages. The Sox team page will be the prototype page. I’m in the process of assembling all the Red Sox news-related links I can. If you have an interesting or useful site, blog, or information link, please post it within this thread.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: By the way, when the news pages are activated, all site members will have the ability to directly submit articles into the team pages. This way, rather than having to wait for us to post an article, you can post the article yourself.  :)

Globe: David Ortiz is wicked awesome.

Not news to anyone really, but I just love David Ortiz interviews anyway.

Globe: David Wells and Matt Clement both had knee surgery.

Did everyone else know that? I didn't know that.
   3. philly Posted: February 20, 2006 at 11:31 AM (#1869239)
Wells yes, Clement no.
   4. Josh Posted: February 20, 2006 at 12:17 PM (#1869283)
There was some news that Clement wanted a 2d opinion before he had his knee scoped at the end of last season. But, I don't recall a follow-up story to say it happened. It was team recommended, iirc.

I don't think it is anything new.

Jim,

are you saying you want news sources (e.g. Boston Globe), or actual articles (e.g. story X that ran in the Globe on day Y)?

If Sox Therapy gets inundated with articles about the Yankees - or Diamondbacks prospects, I suppose - I won't be thrilled with this policy.

I'd read it as the former. If so, then I'd recommend Call of the Green Monster, if only for the occasional laugh.

vi, how is that different from people linking those articles in actual therapy threads?

anyhow, I know *I* won't be linking any Dbacks prospects articles in Sox therapy.

A mechanism will be in place for reporting miscategorized articles. A member who repeatedly violates the posting guidelines will lose the ability to post.

For now, I'm looking for sources.

BPro's Top 50 Prospects

Of note for us:

11. Dustin Pedroia
36. Jon Papelbon
45. Craig Hansen

Lester is not listed.

Jim, does that mean that EVERY single baseball team will get its own section? Otherwise, where would I link an article on the Dbacks without miscategorizing it? Aside from the main section, that is?
   12. 1k5v3L Posted: February 20, 2006 at 01:51 PM (#1869381)
Lester is not listed.

The list was certainly put together by enemies of Sox nation, most likely by the right wing Yankees contingent spearheaded by Goldman and Jaffe at BPro. And Bill Bavasi must have bribed the guys at Bpro, because the list loves the mariners...

Cool. Thanks, Jim. I should've known you'd have a plan.

vi, how is that different from people linking those articles in actual therapy threads?

Not much different. If we have a thread with 50 posts, and 40 are trolling, I'm annoyed. If we have a whole section of the site with 50 articles, and 40 are trolling, I'm annoyed.

Note my prior use of the word "inundated". If it's in small volume it's easy to ignore and does not detract from my enjoyment of ST.

Many probably already know this, but a good starting point is bostonsportsmedia.com. That is worth treating as a "source" in its own right. If you go to that site, you will find lots and lots of links to Red Sox sources.

Jim, I'd suggest you go there and glean as many links as you can. Then build off of that.

Yes.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Please keep them coming.

Projo.com (RR), specifically anything by Art Martone
RedSox.com
Eagle Tribune Online Sports--anything by Rob Bradford is usually pretty good.

Is this Baseball Prospectus? I thought they were supposed to be very low on Papelbon (even suggesting he might be out of baseball with five years), or is that 'just' PECOTA? Does this mean they're ignoring PECOTA or does this mean they're low on virtually prospect?

TINSTATPOTTPL. There Is No Such Thing As Thirty Percent Of Their Top Prospect List.

Putting aside that I smiled at the above reply, I do feel compelled to point out that 4 out of 50 is only 8%.
