Red Sox rule 5 comings and goings

From MLB transactions: Selected RHP Jamie Vermilyea in the Major League phase of the Rule 5 Draft; Selected RHP Victor Ramos, RHP Jason Richardson, and INF David Bacani in the Minor League phase. They lost no one in the ML phase, but lost Henry Cabrera (rhp) and Vince Harrison (3b) in the MiL phase.

Here’s the BA Breakdown

Vermilia had a GB/FB over 2.0 last year and has generally had awesome HR rates. Looks like a big gb guy. I hope to hell he doesn’t stick with the club and take up a spot. I don’t know anything about the rest of these jokers.

Darren,

Actually, Nate Did Really Advise to Draft Elsewhere.

Vermilyea does seem worth a flier, however, although I like almost all of our internal candidates more. Toronto has 40-man issues, so maybe they'll be looking to pay off the Blue Jays for the ability to send him down later.

But what's the big value? It's even questionable whether he'll be worth keeping on the 40. I'm surprised no one took a flier on Fransisco.

That's [Francisco] who I really wanted too, Darren. They could, conceivably, buy Vermilyea from the Jays and then outright him to the minors, no? I know he'd be exposed and all, but I guess it's possible.

And how can you not comment on my beautiful work in Post #1, or did you not catch the obvious?

Nate, I'm surprised you didn't bring up Andrade.

(Let's see if anyone has their sarcasm radar on today.)

I'm no scout, but Vermilyea didn't seem like anything special in the several times I saw him pitch.

There was a tidbit in Rob Bradford's very mediocre book on the Sox and Jays that the Sox were disappointed that Tor took Vermilyea before the Sox could. They've at least been interested in him for awhile.

Pretty boring rule-5 draft this year, unlike a couple of year's ago when the Pirates got fleeced.

I don't think this guy is any good. No way he sticks.
