There's really nothing we can do, is there? I wish we could organize a letter writing campaign or something to free Petagine. We could print up some Free Roberto Petagine shirts and wear them to Fenway or something. With politics it seems like you have some options of puting pressure on people but with baseball the lack of control kills me. It's tearing me up inside.

Papelbon demoted to make room for Cruz and expected to work out the pen the rest of the way.

Some nice pitching performances in the minors tonight.

Alvarez with 7 innings, 2 hits, 0 walks, and 6 SO. (5.1 perfect innings)

Sanchez with 7 innings, 3 hits, 0 walks, 7 SO.

It's to the point where I get sad even thinking about Petagine. I can't remember wanting something I had no control over as badly as I want Petagine in a Sox uniform.

Your teenage years were very different from mine.

And you will all doubt ever doubting Alvarez!!!

Theo hates freedom. There's no other logical explanation.

Bellhorn's 0-8 with 4 K in his rehab assignment at Pawtucket. Sigh.
   108. Mikαεl Posted: August 03, 2005 at 12:33 AM (#1519310)
Bellhorn's bat looked wicked slow in the game I saw. He's not healthy yet. And even when he is, Graffanino has a good argument to be the starter.

Apparently the Pawtucket tv announcers were praising Petagine's defense quite highly during the afternoon game. I must agree with Biff. Theo hates freedom.

Annabelle's MLE ERA from Portland: 1.50!

And you will all doubt ever doubting Alvarez!!!

Yes. That will show us. I will be unsure, myself in doubt, of whether I doubted him. A truly ironic punishment.

He's not healthy yet.

I sure hope that's the explanation. I don't want the guy to be essentially finished.

Can bringing up Sanchez, Paplebon, Alvarez, keeping up Declarmen, etc. and making them the team's bulpen really be worse than what we've got? I say no. Get Schilling back into the rotation already.

He must, since defense was the explanation Theo gave for not bringing him up.

Well, he's up now and his fate is in his own hands now. If he rakes, they won't dare send him down.

Ahh . . .a good bump.

Hansen goes 1 inning, SO two, in his GCL debut. Any word on how he was throwing (e.g., speed)?
   113. Mikαεl Posted: August 04, 2005 at 10:49 PM (#1524467)
Haven't seen any Hansen reports, looking around.

Dustin Pedroia had a good day, too, 4-5, average back up to .275 in Pawtucket.

Baseball America appears to be featuring a Pavement allusion on their front page.
   114. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: August 04, 2005 at 10:56 PM (#1524484)
Pedroia hit his first AAA HR yesterday, no one mentioned that.

Sigh, another 0-for-4 for Bellhorn.

Though he did finally get on base.

Via a hit by pitch.
   116. Josh Posted: August 04, 2005 at 11:26 PM (#1524535)
Though he had 4 singles, at least two of Pedroia's hits could have been doubles but for odd bounces. He had a real solid day.

Bellhorn, too, hit a ball about as deep as you can straight away CF.

Cla looked really bad and really good in the same outing. When his pitches are on, then tail down quickly and batters look silly. When they are off batters get very solid contact off his straight down the middle, 87 mph "fastball" with the slight rise. It isn't pretty.

Eh. What's the MLE of one shutout inning in the GCL?

bump. Talk about Anibal: go!
