Anyhoo.

Am I the only who screams at my fielders for not being able to execute basic plays because they ‘pose’ after fielding the ball? Or several other little things that the computer doesn’t do?

Trip to NYC

Not sure if this is the best spot for this (though I was stumped where else to put it).

I’m heading to NYC on Friday (staying until Monday) with a friend to hang out - we’ve got Yankee tickets for Saturday. Any other baseball related stuff to suggest - note we don’t have a car though we’re staying at the Penn Station Hilton in NJ so hopefully getting around won’t be too tough.

I was considering bringing my clubs and taking a taxi to play somewhere on Sunday, but this probably isn’t the place to ask that question.

Suggestions?

Anyone know the name and/or artist of the current WGN radio Cubs theme?

Been googling for a while with no success.

triple A pitcher, Steven Straberg on an “innings count”

what does the community think of this idea? The nat’s tell us that he’s on a strict innings count, he will not work more than 160 innings this year. (he’s a young fastball phenom currently in triple A and scheduled to get to the bigs at some pt in early June).

If the Nats remain in a pennant chase, should he pitch beyond 160 innings?

Some commentator on the local radio 980 AM said that they have studies that show that injuries occur when pitchers increase their pitching load a vast amount over the previous year; it’s no so much a lot of innings but the jump up from season to season. Is there any evidence of this?

Tx.

Pitching Analysis Guy?

Used to love the analyses by a writer here who (I believe) got a job in some team’s front office.

I’m blocking on his name. Can anyone provide? Thanks!

Also, can I access his analyses? His early-adopter status on Lincecum was pretty prescient.

Major League the Movie: Statistics

So I’m sitting here watching Major League I: A New Hope for, I dunno, the 600th time (hey, a major milestone) and I’m wondering: What kind of numbers do you think these guys put up in that final season and over the course of their careers?

Pedro Cerrano has to be a Andre Dawson type-player. I never see that guy take a pitch. Big stick, fast, decent defense, but mostly a smack it type of player. And the voodoo. Andre Dawson loves voodoo.

I see Roger Dorn as putting up Mike Lowell-type numbers for his career (era adjusted, of course).

Willie Mays Hayes is a question mark. He could be Chuck Carr, but I see him having more offense. Not a Carlos Beltran by any means.

Harris, the starting pitcher who puts anything on it, reminds me of a David Wells type.

Jake the Catcher, last name escaping me at the moment, would probably put up a decent OBP with a .260 average and 15 HRs or so. What catcher puts up something like that at that age? Varitek with a slightly higher AVG, I’d say. And probably nowhere near as good a peak. Just a long decent career with an all-star season or two in there at 26-28.

Rick Vaughn is probably having a good Lidge or Wagner season by the end there.

Planning an efficient baseball road trip

I have a personal hobby of working on visiting as many different major and minor league ballparks as possible. Over the last couple years I’ve managed to put together a few very efficient road trips (where efficiency is defined as the maximum “games seen in new parks divided by days on the trip.” I’ve managed an 11/8 trip that included a lost day for a family member’s graduation as well as a 5/3 mini-trip. Finding early afternoon and even morning games helps a lot, but of course ultimately I have to be within driving distance from one game to the next.

Does anyone have any experience or ideas of how to most effectively plan one of these trips? I’ve been just choosing a fertile geographic area, putting all the area’s games into a spreadsheet, and then coming up with a route through trial and error. I’d love some suggestions for more efficient planning. At the least, it would be great to find a comprehensive location/date/time database for minor league games, as that would cut my legwork dramatically.

Or, if all else fails, general baseball roadtripping chatter would be appreciated too.

Oh, and here’s my current map, not updated since my last swing through California: Google Map
