Terrible goalkeeping from Dida. How did Kewell miss?

Oh, Harry. That was your chance.

Thanks to ABC for showing me the Sydney crowd shot instead of the replay. Good work.

Is there aught we hold in common with the greedy parasite,
Who would lash us into serfdom and would crush us with his might?
Is there anything left to us but to organize and fight?

Australia looks much more intrepid since Kewell came on.

Agreed, rLr, and Kewell is obviously not at full fitness. That’s a big black mark against Cahill - who I think’s a good player.

Cahill didn’t show much today, certainly. He’s been even more invisible than Viduka.

This Emerton guy has looked fairly steady.

The referee is a dentist? That’s a strange piece of useless information.

Emerton’s a really excellent player. He plays for Blackburn, one of their best players. He used to play in Holland, and all the big clubs were desperate to sign him. For some reason he chose Blackburn, God only knows why. I guess they gave him a barrel of cash.

That would have been a remarkable goal if Kewell had scored that.

Ronaldo, a step slow. Maybe a step and a half slow.

And now Brazil make changes.

Who did Aloisi come on for?

He always wanted to Rove, I suppose.

Aloisi came on for Moore.

Australia is looking legitimately dangerous.

Ronaldo off, only 72 minutes too late.

Australia are exhausted. I knew the tempo they’re playing would catch up with them in this ridiculous weather. It’s a shame because they’ve played so well, but they’re now way too stretched. But this is a performance to be proud of, and it actually doesn’t matter whether they lose or draw this game - they just need a draw against Croatia in either case.

If Robinho doesn’t start the next game over Ronaldo, there’s something very wrong.

The Japan keeper has been Australia’s best friend in this tournament.

Australia is tenacious. And a great save.

Lucio is pretty cute on the ball for a central defender.

I hate cards for dissent and crowding the free kick taker. Why take that? Very silly.

Aussies close again.

Viduka is looking quite a bit more lively down the home stretch.

Brazil is a team of colorful names. Robinho, Cafu, Ronaldinho. Fred is not one of those colorful names.

For a team that’s up a goal in the last five minutes, Brazil is looking a littel shaky near their own goal.

I knock his name and he scores a goal.

Good effort by the Aussies, but superior class and fitness win out.

Goodnight, Australia. That’s a shame.

Moral victory goes to Australia. Unfortunately that doesn’t get you any points in the group.

No, but if they can play this way against Croatia, they have a great chance at getting the point they need.

Now I have to get some food, stretch my legs, and get ready for the third game.

Who’s up next?

France-South Korea. Unfortunately, I have to go to work. I expect a scoreless draw here. Just have that feeling.

Work? Just tell your employer ?I toileth not on ye Sabbath!?

Don’t think that’ll work for my atheist ass. Especially not since the devout Seventh Day Adventist was at work yesterday.
