I used to think Robinson was awesome..based mainly on couple of games when he was playing for Leeds ( esp one game against man u )
used to complain about martin and calamity james being tried before him..
this world cup is doing a lot to change my impression
Well I was right that the game would be a draw. But I wish I had been wrong. Dammit, but England disintegrated from set pieces. That’s on Sven and, to a lesser extent, Terry. Well, at least it’s fixable before the Ecuador game. But they really have to work on that.
I like Owen a lot (I’m a Liverpool fan) and I wish him all the best. So I sincerely hope that he misses the rest of the tournament, but not a day more. That way he’ll be fine, but Sven will be forced not to play him. We need to play Carrick (or, if the bald idiot insists, Hargreaves) in a holding role, and go to one of the two formations I suggested upthread.
The real nightmare, of course, is not merely that England are lions led by donkeys, but that nothing is going to change in the near future. After Sven, it’s the radical move - to Sven’s assistant. Gah. When was the last time such a talented group of players has been managed so diabolically?

My argument in favour of Paul Robinson is that he’s not David “unforced error” James, who makes too many basic mistakes and has the concentration span of a goldfish. Robinson should stay in the team on that basis alone.
I feel sad for Owen. the luancy of bringing Walcott rather than, say, Defoe, Bent or Johnson is out in the open. England have only Crouch and Rooney to rely on.
Still, I think they will beat Ecuador, who have benefitted from a lightweight group.
And as for saying “remember when Henrik Larrson was a good striker?”. Yes I do - in the Champions League final 4 weeks ago. People have short memories…

I was referring to his glory days in Glasgow. He is a good striker now, just like Dennis the Menace was a good striker for Arsenal those last 2 years.
Now quite playing out the string, but none of the former snappiness. To me still, I have nightmares of Bergkampf’s goal against Argentina.
I hate when Argentina and Holland play each other..grr
Crouch, Rooney and Gerrard in the old scholes role I guess. Ofcourse if Lampard were to wake up..
