CW hits the pinata for the candy - 01 February 2012 07:53 PM
As a help to me - does anyone have any comments about my moderating of the game? I’m particularly interested to hear opinions on the rules changes, most notably the lack of deadlines. (Even if you didn’t play but watched, I’d love to hear it.)
As a lurker your text made me want to be in the next rpg you gm.
I liked what the werewolves did, splitting the votes on the first day. JGLB suggesting the Smelly/Accent combo shortly after Bads was killed, selling out his own brother a little bit, kept him well down the suspicion pole in my eyes since, like I said, I had my eyes dead on Accent when HCO was revealed to be a human upon death.
The first mistake came in killing Daryn over Flounder, but that’s a 20/20 hindsight thing, since I had thought both had about an equal chance of being seer on Day 2. The other thing was not having a plausible story ready to contradict Flounder when he outed himself. I could see a wolf turn on the other wolf when he’s a lost cause but it didn’t seem believable when all they had to do was get one villager in the discussion. As I had said, I might have been fooled had I been made to chose between Flounder/Smelly vs. Accent/JGLB.
I toyed with the idea of trying to set myself up as a false seer to bait the wolves into eating me, and staying committed to not killing HCO. I chickened out and caved because I had some pre-existing suspicion of Accent I didn’t want to disclose and was scared of the idea of the village wasting a day lynching me as HCO’s confederate if one of the accusers had seen the truth about him.
It came down to Daryn/Flounder as seer, but we were too clever by half, and guessed that Daryn saying “that sounds like something a seer would say” about Flounder to be an attempt to deflect attention from himself, rather than an honest guess.

I wasn’t prepared for the false seer gambit, that was miscommunication on our part. I expected My fellow werewolf to be a quick vote #2 to bring me to the tree giving us a rough 50/50 on the last day. Daryn/Flounder was a coin flip for us.
I had no idea until juglub agreed to vote for accent and then didn’t. HCO being human really shook my resolve. Now I’ve seen the horror of what mob violence can do.

I was actually in a meeting when that happened and couldn’t vote.
CW, I was a big fan of the no deadlines. Gave more urgency to the debate, actually, since you knew there could be a clear tipping point. Made it feel more like we were an angry mob.
I learned a great deal and had a lot of fun, even after I was dead. I certainly made “fatal” mistakes; I was much too heavy handed. I fully expected to die very early, but I thought my death (and HCOs) would make it very clear who the wolves were. Boy, was I wrong about that. I would definitely like to play again.
Gentlemen, after reviewing my schedule for the next few days it doesn’t feel like I’ll have time to participate, but I should have time to moderate. It’s up to you.
The next time I run a game I think I will declare that, until a player votes to kill anyone else, he is voting to kill himself. So if there are 7 players it only requires 3 other votes to kill him. That will provide a strong incentive to get some real votes on the table.

That makes it hard for those of us with jobs and stuff. Maybe they should have 60 minutes from the time they first post in the “day”.
Also, I think in your game but not in CW’s. we could vote for multiple people. I thought that that was good.
I think the revealing of the state of the people who died is an incredible benefit to the villagers. I think without it, the werewolves would win almost all the time. This is different than the in-person game, which I think is stacked against the werewolves, and tweaks to help the werewolves are usually positive.
By the way, I will be without internet/phone from 4pm Friday to 8pm Sunday this weekend, so I will be out of the next game, assuming it starts this week.

I dreamed up the “10 to 10” schedule to accommodate people with jobs and stuff. As long as you check in and vote once every day, and do your seer/werewolf business once every night, you are a fully productive member of Mordavian society.

I like this, so long as we’re not playing it so where enough votes to hang ends a round.
I think it would be fun to have a game where non-players can comment and provide their insight to the wolves and the villagers. Or even have one designated observer who can say whatever they want and their goal is to try and indentify the wolves AND the seer.
Yes, HCO your plan is fine in the 10 to 10 model. I am not sure it would come into play often, at least practically (you may see some intentional grounding).
I’ve also thought about making people vote in a world-editable spreadsheet like this but I fear it would lead to too much out of character discussion about revision histories and so on. I might insist that people refer to the spreadsheet as a clay tablet on the wall or something.

I am not opposed to it, but docs is now blocked at work. I said I would run the next one, but I can’t commit to checking until the middle of next week.
I noticed yesterday that this thread does not require authentication to view. So now this works. That kind of sucks. Should we ask Jim to hide this forum? Should we move into the Lounge forum?
