Hot Stove Talk

So I thought it would be interesting to collect information from fans of teams on what players teams will let go, what positions teams are looking to fill, how much their budget is going to change and what players will be expected to step up into a starting position.

Some of this has already been done, as can be seen at this link: Team needs

Basically, I think it would be interesting to see which positions will have more players than spots (more rookies expected to move up than veterans retiring) and which positions will have the most teams looking to spend money (I’m going to guess starting pitching).  I think one of the reasons that many Primates have been surprised at the contracts that players have gotten is because it wasn’t clear how much money was out there and how few players there were to get it.

I’ll start off by looking at how many open positions there are and how many free agents are available (of course, this is based on the list in the first post).  I’ll post this year’s WS and WSAB just for convenience (thanks, hardballtimes.com)

I don’t think Cleveland is completely thrilled with Garko/Martinez at first, but given the choices I don’t see them bringing in a free agent.
