Sociology Dissertation on Sabermetrics
Posted: 27 May 2007 02:22 AM   [ Ignore ]

My name is Bob Ngo and I am a PhD Candidate in the department of
Sociology at the University of California - Santa Barbara. I am
posting because my I am doing my dissertation on the Sabermetric
movement in baseball as a cultural phenomenon.

As part of my research, I would like to interview 20-30 people who
consider themselves sabermetricians. Specifically, I would like to
talk to people who spend some of their leisure time analyzing,
creating, and writing about baseball statistics.

I will be attending the SABR convention in St. Louis this summer and I
would like to try and talk to as many people as possible at the
conference, but if that does not work out for any reason, I can do the
interviews over the phone. If you happen to live in Southern or
Central California, I can also do face to face interviews.

If you are interested in being interviewed, please contact me. You can
email me at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). com. Of course, if you are just interested in
my research, I’m happy to talk to you about it as well. Also, if you
know anyone who would be a good person to talk to, I’d be appreciative
if you could forward this post to them.

For more information on my project, you can go to the website that I
have set up about it at research or you can read about
my progress on my dissertation blog. at research/ blog

I look forward to meeting all of you. Thanks!

Bob, you’ve definitely come to the right place.  But nobody reads these forums, so I recommend that you post this in a regular thread or two (newsblog); nobody will be upset or consider it spam.
