Man, you plan to hit pretty much every place at, in, or near the Viagra Triangle except the Hangge-Uppe. I also agree with Moses that most of those places suck—crowded with early 20s suburbanites (amateurs), occasionally lines to get in, and general stupidity. You’re better off with the areas you plan on for Friday.
Speaking of, what exactly are the plans? When is Village Tap—Friday or Saturday?
I can do something Friday night and *maybe* early Saturday evening, but I have to drive down to Indy at 7am Sunday morning so I can’t stay out late.
I really like your golf drinking rules, though. I’ll have to steal the idea and give you no credit for it, of course.
Interesting to note: This thread has 25 posts per page, while the Lounge is on 50 posts per page. I was thinking that’s because this was created before the switchover, but the Sopranos thread was created long before that, and it’s at 50 posts per page. The change must apply to the Primer Lounge section of the Forum only. (OK, interesting probably only to me.)
Then Village Tap can work, but I shouldn’t stay out past 10 or so.
I’m going to shoot for the Village Tap around 4PM. I’ll have this cap on, so if none of the rest of the Chicago contingent is there then maybe Dial’ll recognize me.
That’s fine. We Chicagoans are used to sharing our city with Hoosiers and Cheeseheads and the like, so you won’t stick out (well, not for that reason).

I meant it might be a little sensitive right now (and I’ll be wearing an orange David Wright jersey T in all likelihood.)
I know what you meant. Like I said, we are used to sharing our city. You may get razzed for it, but I don’t think the thugs that roam Roscoe Village are going to beat you to a pulp over it.
Note: Shotgun Start refers to the simultaneous drinking of all players, versus sending out groups of four every six minutes.
Thanks to everyone for their valuable feedback on bars! The golf course has been amended accordingly ...

Drunken Sailor Drinking Rules *
1. Any drinking on the Driving Range (ie, on the airplane, or before Friday 7pm Chicago), does NOT count on the scorecard (though we will be impressed by your heroic tales of boozing).
2. Improvisation of the actual Golf Course is likely to occur, and encouraged. Find a drinking buddy to validate your score!!!
3. Any standard adult beverage (beer, wine, mixed drink) consumed at a bar will result in an Even par (E on scorecard).
4. Double-shot drinks will count as a birdie (-1), as will a second adult beverage consumed at any golf hole.
5. Any third adult beverage will count as an eagle (-2), when consumed at an individual golf hole.
6. Boilermakers and Irish Car Bombs will count as an eagle (-2) [likewise other drinks involving a beer and a shot].
7. Consuming a non-alcoholic drink only, or not drinking at all, will result in a warning for pace-of-play, and you receive a bogey (+1). However, you may use a one mulligan per 9 holes to rescind the warning, consume a booze, and save par.
8. An eagle (-2) is the maximum score than can be scored for straight drinking at any golf hole (see below Bonus / Penalty exceptions).
9. Buy a round of drinks for our group (min 5 players) = Deduct one stroke (-1).
10. Buy a round of drinks for our group (min 10 players) = Deduct two strokes (-2).
11. Convince a stranger / bartender buy a round of drinks for our group (min 5 players) = Deduct one stroke (-1).
12. Convince a stranger / bartender buy a round of drinks for our group (min 10 players) = Deduct two strokes (-2).
13. Deduct three strokes (-3) for consuming a Cheezborger + a booze at the infamous Billy Goat Tavern [as made famous by the classic Saturday Night Live skit]. Degree of difficulty involved in going out of the way. Must present receipt / photo for proof.
14. Barfing will count as a double bogey (+2 on scorecard), but can be turned into a birdie if followed up by consuming a booze within 5 minutes.
15. Passing out drunk and getting corn-holed by a stranger = Add three penalty strokes (+3).
16. Losing your cel phone and/or wallet = Add two penalty strokes (+2).
17. Getting lost and crying or barfing in a taxi cab will disqualify you (DQ).
18. You must finish 18 holes (or more), or have finished more holes than any other player, to qualify for the Drinking Championship.
19. If you catch a foul ball at Wrigley Field, you drink for free the rest of the weekend (everyone has to rotate buying your drinks).

The revised listing looks better, I guess. I really don’t go out by Rush street or downtown that often. Some of the places sound familiar (like McFadden’s for instance, and IIRC, it should be ok).
I know a bit more about the places in Wrigleyville. I don’t think you’ll have to worry about covers during the day, but they will be packed with all the other game attendees. And I hate Cubby Bear, but that’s more of a personal thing. Those bars all are a lot different at night than during the day. I don’t know if the extra credit bars are for before or after the game, but I’d avoid them afterwards (again, a personal thing) and stop at a bunch of places on the way over to Village Tap. If I were going, I could give you an itinerary. If your group is anything like you, Dial, I bet they’re a sweating bunch and will need some refreshment on the 15-20 minute walk over.
What the hell, I will. If I were going to the game, and had some time to kill afterwards before I had to be in Roscoe Village, I would start by leaving Wrigley and walking west on Addison to Guthrie’s Tavern. Then I’d head back out, west on Addison again, turn left on Southport and stop in at Justin’s, and sit in the beer garden for a little. THen I’d go west on Roscoe, turn right on Lincoln and go to Finley Dunne’s. After that, go back to Roscoe and make a right. One last stop before the Village Tap would mean going left on Damen and going to Four Treys. Village Tap is only a little bit down on Roscoe past Damen.
While Village Tap has good bar food, personally, I’d grab a sandwich from Costello’s, and I probably would have had a wing appetizer back at Finley Dunne’s.
If food is in the picture, I might also suggest Yak-zies on Clark just north of Waveland. dJF and I went there after the game, and I had a hamburger that I would call excellent. We also had a jaw-droppingly cute waitress. I recall that the beer selection was not bad, and it was not outrageously loud and crowded, just plain loud and crowded.
Mo,
that’s awesome. We’ll incorporate that. We need to finalize the Village tap:
Present designation: 4:30 til ????
I’ll have on a gray Mets shirt and a Mets cap. The DWright shirt is being worn today, and I won’t want to be one of those yutzs that wears the jersey T *and* the cap, like I might get into the game, and I have to have a cap.
Also, you may not know it to look at me, but I am in decent shape wrt physical exertion. I don’t sweat and can walk far without dropping dead. That can be attested to by SABR attendees. The other guys are about the same.
However, I don’t want to go more than 15-20 minutes without refreshments…
Note: Shotgun Start refers to the simultaneous drinking of all players, versus sending out groups of four every six minutes.
You all start simultaneously, but in the same location, rather than scattered around the golf course. That’s why I questioned whether the term meant something different in North Carolina. I worked at a country club for nine summers, as both a caddy and a bag room attendant, so I know what a shotgun start is.
I understand that, as a practical matter, more than four people can order a beverage at a bar simultaneously, whereas it’s unusual for more than four golfers to start a hole simultaneously. But, considering one of your drinking partners, I thought that literalness would be prized in this game.
