This must be a disastrous start for Wake. Tfbg9 hasn't appeared here to diss him.
   2. tfbg9 Posted: July 06, 2011 at 10:39 PM (#3870468)
BOS: Tim Wakefield (44, RHP, 4-3, 4.82)

We gonna lose.
   3. tfbg9 Posted: July 06, 2011 at 10:41 PM (#3870470)
You jumped the gun, Km. Its gonna be on you when it happens, my little nutburger.
   4. Hugh Jorgan Posted: July 06, 2011 at 11:36 PM (#3870504)
So with our new fangled rotation, I've prepared myself for many 9-7 games....

How does Buchholz with a sore back go on a 14 day DL, then need to see a specialist, whereas Pujols breaks his wrist and comes back in 17 days? Do we have the worst medical staff ever? This is all shades of Ellsbury last year...
   5. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: July 06, 2011 at 11:47 PM (#3870511)
Wake should just put the ball on a tee
   6. Dan Posted: July 06, 2011 at 11:48 PM (#3870513)
Going to be lucky to make it into the ASB within 4 games of the Yankees with this "rotation".
   7. Hugh Jorgan Posted: July 06, 2011 at 11:52 PM (#3870518)
Phil, Phil!! how was the footy last night? Must have been hard as a NSWelshman to watch that first 30 minutes...best 30 minutes of league I've ever seen. Now to ice the cake for you mate, we've got ourselves a 9-7 loss just for you!
   8. Hugh Jorgan Posted: July 06, 2011 at 11:54 PM (#3870519)
UH, where the f*ck is Gonzalez??
   9. Dan Posted: July 06, 2011 at 11:57 PM (#3870522)
UH, where the f*ck is Gonzalez??

Just a day off. His first of the season in fact. He also said that he doesn't pick up the ball well out of Romero's hand, and his 5 strikeouts in 6 ABs against Romero don't contradict that.
   10. Hugh Jorgan Posted: July 06, 2011 at 11:58 PM (#3870523)
Thanks Dan. Wow, first day off, he's definitely earned it.
   11. Dan Posted: July 07, 2011 at 12:17 AM (#3870529)
Is that ball from McDonald a homer without the monster? Seemed like he clobbered it.
   12. Dan Posted: July 07, 2011 at 12:20 AM (#3870532)
I'd IBB Ellsbury here.
   13. Textbook Editor Posted: July 07, 2011 at 12:33 AM (#3870536)
What is the "on field delay"?
   14. Fly should without a doubt be number !!!!! Posted: July 07, 2011 at 12:33 AM (#3870537)
What was tito arguing about, there? Couldn't se e anything from my seat.
   15. Dan Posted: July 07, 2011 at 12:35 AM (#3870539)
McClellan called time AFTER Thames hit the ball on the flyout to Ellsbury, and the play was called back and Thames was allowed to continue batting, though he ended up striking out. One of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen.
   16. Dan Posted: July 07, 2011 at 12:41 AM (#3870541)
Reddick better be hitting for McDonald here if a RHP is coming in.
   17. Dan Posted: July 07, 2011 at 12:42 AM (#3870545)
Thank god.
   18. Dan Posted: July 07, 2011 at 12:43 AM (#3870546)
Well that was just shitty luck.
   19. Hugh Jorgan Posted: July 07, 2011 at 12:46 AM (#3870549)
Gee what a surprise, Reddick comes in and hits the ball hard. Shame about the outcome. I don't care about the splits, this guy should be playing everyday.
   20. Dan Posted: July 07, 2011 at 12:47 AM (#3870551)

I'd like to see him platoon with Navarro in RF once Crawford's back actually. I don't have an issue with Crawford riding the pine instead of Reddick some of the time against the lefty starters though.
   21. Dan Posted: July 07, 2011 at 12:49 AM (#3870556)
Navarro has some kind of arm. Maybe he should just be starting at SS with Reddick in the OF everyday instead, since Scutaro can't make throws from the hole and hasn't hit at all other than the series in Toronto.
   22. Famous Original Joe C Posted: July 07, 2011 at 12:54 AM (#3870561)
Wake is awesome. I hope he gets the Red Sox wins record, or ties it.
   23. Hugh Jorgan Posted: July 07, 2011 at 12:55 AM (#3870563)
Wake with the QS. Sure it doesn't mean much, but hey when your expectations are low, that's a good result.
   24. tfbg9 Posted: July 07, 2011 at 12:58 AM (#3870567)
Timmy will blow it yet, km, just you watch.
   25. Dan Posted: July 07, 2011 at 12:59 AM (#3870570)
He won't blow it because he won't be given the chance. He might start the 7th but he's not going to have a long leash.
   26. Hugh Jorgan Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:00 AM (#3870573)
Who needs A-gon when Ellsbury is the new found power source! I can't believe he's 11th in Fangraphs WAR, but only the 4th best CF in baseball. It's like a golden age for CF this year....
   27. Dan Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:00 AM (#3870574)
Nice AB Scoots.
   28. Dan Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:01 AM (#3870575)
What CF is ahead of him besides Granderson and Kemp? Drawing a blank.
   29. Dan Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:04 AM (#3870578)
There's actually 4 CFers ahead of him in fWAR. Kemp, Granderson, Victorino, and McCutchen. That's crazy.
   30. Textbook Editor Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:06 AM (#3870579)
Well Ball 1 and 2 were strikes according to Gameday.
   31. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:07 AM (#3870580)
The good old delayed strike three - I'm a fan for some reason
   32. Textbook Editor Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:07 AM (#3870581)
Heck of a start.
   33. Hugh Jorgan Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:07 AM (#3870582)
Crap, forgot about Kemp. That's incredible, 5 out of top 11 are CF.

And Wake gets through seven!
   34. karlmagnus Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:14 AM (#3870589)
At this point, if there are more runs, the manager blew it, not Wake. Fingers crossed for the Boston bullpen navigating the last 2 innings!

Neat double reverse jinx, if you ask me, tfbg9?
   35. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:17 AM (#3870590)
Jesus - how does Papi not score there ?
   36. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:18 AM (#3870592)
Really hope Josh can get a hit of a lefty here
   37. Dan Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:19 AM (#3870594)
Damn. 1-1 pitch to Reddick was begging to be hit.
   38. Dan Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:20 AM (#3870596)
Shitty squander. Would've been nice to get the insurance and give Bard the night off.
   39. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:26 AM (#3870602)
Rain delay - now I can't focus on lunch for Lu's birthday celebrations
   40. Dan Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:27 AM (#3870603)
Why the hell not wait for the 3rd out in the inning to tarp it?
   41. Dan Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:29 AM (#3870607)
If they call this Bard gets a save for getting the 2 outs even though it was mid-inning, right?
   42. Textbook Editor Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:38 AM (#3870610)
Well, what sucks here is Bard won't come back to get the 3rd out, right?

Could be a bit of a wait, if the radar is to be believed. I'd guess at least an hour, maybe more depending on how bad it gets.
   43. Textbook Editor Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:38 AM (#3870611)
At least Justin Masterson is doing his best to act as our agent in the field in Cleveland...
   44. tfbg9 Posted: July 07, 2011 at 02:12 AM (#3870634)
Well, Wake certainly would have blown it had he been left in!
Now we will be victimized by the dark cloud that has been shadowing Timmy for a few years-first step, big rain delay outta nowhere to get the best Sock reliever out of the game.

We still figure to lose this game...but it'll be the Wakefield Sad Sack Syndrome that does us in.

Just watch, you Duke-worshipping fruitcake.
   45. Dan Posted: July 07, 2011 at 02:19 AM (#3870635)
At least Papelbon doesn't have to face Bautista tonight...
   46. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: July 07, 2011 at 02:20 AM (#3870637)
Paps won't do this simply
   47. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: July 07, 2011 at 02:23 AM (#3870640)
At least Papelbon doesn't have to face Bautista tonight...

He might....
   48. Textbook Editor Posted: July 07, 2011 at 02:25 AM (#3870642)
Can we trade Papelbon for a starter at the trade deadline?

[/thinking irrationally]
   49. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: July 07, 2011 at 02:25 AM (#3870643)
Paplebon really is ####### useless more often than he ain't
   50. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: July 07, 2011 at 02:26 AM (#3870645)
[/thinking irrationally]

it's not a irrational as you think
   51. Textbook Editor Posted: July 07, 2011 at 02:26 AM (#3870646)
MY KINGDOM FOR A CLOSER WHO HOLDS RUNNERS ON!
   52. Darren Posted: July 07, 2011 at 02:27 AM (#3870647)
Pap gets too much of the plate when he is ahead.
   53. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: July 07, 2011 at 02:27 AM (#3870648)
If paps screws Wake out of a win here - KM could kill him anyway
   54. Darren Posted: July 07, 2011 at 02:27 AM (#3870650)
Why do you want to hold the runners on? All that protects is your closer's ERA.
   55. Darren Posted: July 07, 2011 at 02:28 AM (#3870652)
Nice pitch to end it. Hope Pap gets some BABIP breaks soon.

So Lester to the DL, eh?
   56. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: July 07, 2011 at 02:30 AM (#3870653)
Thanks for another heart attack paplebon

see you tomorrow everyone
   57. Curse of the Graffanino (dfan) Posted: July 07, 2011 at 02:32 AM (#3870655)
The Red Sox are 7-4 in games started by Wakefield this year.
   58. Textbook Editor Posted: July 07, 2011 at 02:32 AM (#3870656)
#54--It's easier to score from 2nd than 1st. While I don't care about Papelbon's ERA, I do care about just handing them a run on a single.

I'm probably irrational, but I like making teams earn bases/runs, and I prefer 1st & 3rd with 2 outs and up by 2 runs to runner on 1st up by 1 run.
   59. Darren Posted: July 07, 2011 at 02:35 AM (#3870658)
It's irrational. :)
   60. tfbg9 Posted: July 07, 2011 at 02:37 AM (#3870659)
Wake got lucky. Anybody who thinks he can keep this up is a damn fool.
