Astros draw first blood again.

If the fates are kind, that will be the last regular-season pitch that Westbrook throws for the Cardinals.

This is a miserable performance by St. Louis. Atlanta is handing them--handing them!--the wild card. And they're blowing it. Shameful.

Well, it ain't over St. Louis just yet.

Nice little come back.

If Pujols would start hitting again, it would be even better.

Bill James might think he's boring, but Lance Berkman is right up there with Will Clark and Larry Walker for favorite short-term acquisitions. Berkman and Walker, of course, have the added bonus of not being cackling douches.

And the Cards still have a pulse.

Credit to the Cards, after I #### all over them, they've rallied back.

Do you mean Bagwell?

They have gone from warriors to dogs and back again about 40 times in the past couple weeks.

In a game this important, why is Arthur Rhodes pitching?
   11. salvomania Posted: September 28, 2011 at 02:49 AM (#3940518)
LaRussa doing all he can to blow it...

Pulls Sanchez after 12 pitches (4 outs, 2 Ks) to bring in the lefty Rhodes, who (wait for it!) allows the lefty to reach. Rhodes has allowed a first-batter OBP as a Cardinal of .465.

So now Tony pulls Rhodes and he's on to his 3rd pitcher of the inning (the 7th) on a night in which his starter went only 2 and a third.

Whats' wrong with letting Sanchez face a lefty???

LHB vs. Sanchez in 2011: .162/.289/.162.

LHB vs. Rhodes in 2011: .245/.333/.528

Now that he has a 6 run -- overcoming more baserunning shenanigans in the process -- maybe Tony can settle down and save some pitching for tomorrow -- which bids fair to be a hell of a day.

#9 - My random assertion generator may be malfunctioning and Google isn't cooperating with me, but I do recollect James calling Berkman one of the most boring superstars in the game, maybe something about grass growing in there as well, in an interview circa 2004-5. He was contrasting Berkman with aesthetically exciting players like Rickey or Reyes.
