Carpenter down to make room for Coleman.

I hope Carpenter comes back, since it's a lost season anyway and he's clearly got some ability, but man has he really been terrible. More walks than strikouts, a .379/.472/.552 line against, and just for good measure, he's allowed every one of 8 inherited runners to score (!), so it's not like his numbers have been skewed by one bad outing.

Carpenter has good stuff-he just needs to learn how to use it.

And in fairness, he logged a whole 6.2 innings, so it's not like we can really draw any long-term conclusions anyway. Like I said, I hope he comes back.

But he sure seemed overwhelmed, and since he's already 25, I would have liked to see him not be a total disaster right out of the gate. It's not like his numbers in Iowa have been encouraging, either.

I don't like the double-switch here. I know the bullpen was shot after the Giants series and there's still almost four innings left today. But the starters went deep in all of the games this weekend; shouldn't the pen be restored by now?

Wood was lucky to get out of the 7th with the game just tied considering he has NO command of anything today. So naturally Quade sends him back out for the 8th.
