Ah, Our old friend Tom.

Sort of like running into that old girlfriend that you dumped because you thought single life would yield better results only to have the results not match expectations.

Wells' career ERA in the 1st inning must be monstrous.

Espinosa for N.L. Rookie of the Year baby!
   5. SteveM. Posted: July 06, 2011 at 11:25 PM (#3870495)
Other then its lousy hitting, defense and starting pitching, this is a great Cubs team.

Wells' career ERA in the 1st inning must be monstrous.

Yup. Eyeballing it, should be over 6.00 after tonight. And, true to tonight's form, his career 2nd and 3rd inning ERAs are stellar, at ~2.50 and ~1.60, respectively. Watch out next inning, though -- a career fourth-inning ERA of 6.82.

The bullpens are going to be pressed into action early in this one.

Z1N!
   9. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 07, 2011 at 12:42 AM (#3870544)
Perhaps Randy Wells just isn't very good.
   10. SteveM. Posted: July 07, 2011 at 12:43 AM (#3870547)
Randy Wells is fast showing that he is not going to be part of a better Cubs future.
   11. SteveM. Posted: July 07, 2011 at 12:45 AM (#3870548)
Thank God tomorrow's game is on WGN. These Nationals announcers are beyond bad-approaching Hawk Harrelson territory.
   12. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 07, 2011 at 12:47 AM (#3870552)
They were intolerable even when the Nationals were terrible. I can only imagine what it's like right now.

I'm not even sure who Quade should put in there right now, but it seems odd that the young Carpenter seems to be the defacto guy to bring in any time there's a mess.
   13. SteveM. Posted: July 07, 2011 at 12:48 AM (#3870554)
If I see John Grabow tonight, I will be tempted to pull a Tonya Harding on him.
   14. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 07, 2011 at 12:50 AM (#3870558)
I don't see how we don't see him tonight. There's still half a ball game to go and this is on the verge of becoming a blowout.
   15. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 07, 2011 at 12:55 AM (#3870564)
Perhaps Carpenter could try something off-speed.
   16. SteveM. Posted: July 07, 2011 at 12:56 AM (#3870565)
Great job by Carpenter. As my son and I were discussing, the Cubs need to see what these young guys can do.
   17. SteveM. Posted: July 07, 2011 at 12:59 AM (#3870571)
Werth kinda of nonchalant about that ball
   18. SteveM. Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:00 AM (#3870572)
I love Aramis. He shuts up the Washington announcers.
   19. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:19 AM (#3870593)
Why is Blake DeWitt the first bat off the bench when Fukudome is available?
   20. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:20 AM (#3870597)
Was that poor baserunning or just bad luck?
   21. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:25 AM (#3870601)
How is Wood's ERA this low? Is it just the total lack of clean innings that's got me thinking it should be a lot higher?
   22. SteveM. Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:28 AM (#3870606)
Soriano should have caught that double in the first place. He is starting to become a statue out in left.
   23. Joey B. Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:44 AM (#3870616)
Nice job Rodriguez.
   24. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:45 AM (#3870618)
Haha, here's John Grabow in a close game. Excellent.
   25. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 07, 2011 at 01:46 AM (#3870619)
I can only surmise that Grabow is in there because Quade doesn't want another one-run loss.
   26. Joey B. Posted: July 07, 2011 at 02:01 AM (#3870628)
Fire up the sub horn baby!!
   27. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 07, 2011 at 02:01 AM (#3870629)
The Nats' pen is impressive. But the Cubs are still a ####### mess of a team. Second worst record in baseball.
   28. Brian C Posted: July 07, 2011 at 02:53 AM (#3870669)
Missed this game, but sounds like the typical 2011 Cubs game. I see that young Carpenter stranded his first inherited runners tonight, though. That time in the minors is already paying off.
