Quite the underwhelming returns considering how that inning was shaping up. Byrd seems to have a Soriano-like hole on anything away.

Does Soriano ever hustle? Deep ball to 3rd with 2 out and a guy on 3rd, and he basically jobs to first.

Looked like a bad throw, too, and it still beat him.

Other then Carlos Lee, I had never heard of any of these Astros hitters before this season.

Dempster sure burned through a lot of pitches going through this AAA lineup.

What is sad for Houston that the young guys they called up don't look like are major prospects. Not a lot hope there right now.

I didn't realize Pena's batting average had dropped so low. Yes, he walks a lot, and yes, he hits the occasional homerun. But dear God please don't sign him to a long term contract.

A lot of my friends are Tigers fans. They've often said they preferred the 2003 team (the one that almost tied the record for most losses in a season) over the dreadful teams of the 1990s because the former was bad because they were young, but had potential. The latter, meanwhile, was just a bunch of drek.

The question is whether the Cubs are just dreck or full of potential. This years draft does give me hope as Ricketts seems to have spend a great deal of change for the draft class.

Damn, I am starting to really hate Soriano.

Colvin has had some really nice hacks since he started getting regular starts.
   12. SteveM. Posted: August 17, 2011 at 01:53 AM (#3901969)
Yes! I love seeing Colvin with some success.
   13. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: August 17, 2011 at 01:54 AM (#3901970)
I just assumed Soriano would strike out there, which is why I got a little upset that Byrd seemed so content to just put the ball in play to move along Pena.
   14. SteveM. Posted: August 17, 2011 at 01:54 AM (#3901971)
But Walks, according to Quade, Reed Johnson has to also get his hacks in as well.
   15. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: August 17, 2011 at 02:03 AM (#3901980)
I like Reed. He's kind of pointless on a team like this, but he's not objectively bad at any facet of the game and is fun to watch. I'd rather see Colvin get the starts, but I don't cringe any time I see Reed's name in the lineup.
   16. SteveM. Posted: August 17, 2011 at 02:08 AM (#3901981)
I don't either when its against a lefty. But against a righty, he has no business taking at-bats away from Colvin. Soriano, sure.
   17. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: August 17, 2011 at 02:10 AM (#3901986)
I think most days I'd take Dave Kelton over Soriano.
   18. SteveM. Posted: August 17, 2011 at 02:11 AM (#3901989)
Or Jason Dubois. Who I think is back at Iowa this year.

That was a super hot girl in the Cubs shirt. Ah, to be Deep in the Heart of Texas.

A lot of empty seats in Minute Maid.
   21. SteveM. Posted: August 17, 2011 at 03:01 AM (#3902029)
Can Marmol ever have a 1-2-3 inning?
   22. SteveM. Posted: August 17, 2011 at 03:02 AM (#3902031)
Get somebody up! When Marmol gets in trouble like this, Quade seems to freeze up.
   23. SteveM. Posted: August 17, 2011 at 03:04 AM (#3902034)
unfuckingbelievable.
   24. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: August 17, 2011 at 03:06 AM (#3902036)
That's embarrassing. I figured he'd still lock it down with the ample three-run lead. Christ. Here I thought them not cashing in on the runner at second in the top of the inning was no big deal.
