I must say, Bobby Valentine just expressed the feelings he had/has as the man who managed the Mets 10 years ago pretty darned well.
   2. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 12:54 AM (#3922194)
I was at the first series back, the only full series I've actually ever attended. That first one was without question the most exciting and moving game I've ever been to.
   3. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 01:44 AM (#3922216)
Could we please ####### score something, for ####'s sake?
   4. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 01:50 AM (#3922223)
Why can we not watch the ####### game while Piazza talks?
   5. Sam M. Posted: September 12, 2011 at 01:50 AM (#3922224)
I second that emotion, Lassus. But I could listen to Piazza talk about how he experienced 10 years ago all night. He's so real.
   6. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 01:55 AM (#3922228)
I will be very, very, very upset if they bring the fences in.

Then again, it's only the top of the 5th.
   7. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 01:56 AM (#3922230)
Wait, that didn't make sense.

Those sentences are not related.
   8. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 02:01 AM (#3922237)
I can't believe the Mets didn't have the damned balls to defy MLB on the hats. Pathetic.
   9. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 02:10 AM (#3922243)
Confession time: I rooted for the Yankees in the 2001 World Series.
   10. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 02:18 AM (#3922253)
Yay Nick Evans.
   11. SteveM. Posted: September 12, 2011 at 02:29 AM (#3922258)
Why in the hell did the Cubs not trade Pena at the deadline and call up LaHair. He is more useful now then Pena.
   12. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 12, 2011 at 02:38 AM (#3922262)
I hope the Cubs aren't going to take LaHair's strong showing as a sign to make him their first baseman in 2012.
   13. SteveM. Posted: September 12, 2011 at 02:44 AM (#3922265)
Not unless he changes his name to Pujols.
   14. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 02:44 AM (#3922266)
John Franco: "Everyone wants to move down to Tribeca now..."

Unlike before, when it was a wasteland.
   15. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 12, 2011 at 02:54 AM (#3922269)
Blake DeWitt is so shitty.
   16. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 03:12 AM (#3922274)
Can we score some more runs? That would be kind of awesome.
   17. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 03:15 AM (#3922275)
Thole for Paulino?

I can't tell if that's a good idea.
   18. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 03:17 AM (#3922276)
MOTHERUFCK
   19. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 03:20 AM (#3922278)
YES YES YES!

Not pretty, but effective.
   20. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 03:20 AM (#3922279)
Come on, Jose, for us and for your batting title. ####### crank one.
   21. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 03:21 AM (#3922280)
Well, at least we tied.
   22. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 12, 2011 at 03:24 AM (#3922281)
This bullpen hates Matt Garza.
   23. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 12, 2011 at 03:30 AM (#3922285)
I suppose it's fitting that the Mets win today. And by another 5-4 score.
   24. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 03:33 AM (#3922286)
David Wright walkoff homer. I'm calling it.
   25. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 03:33 AM (#3922287)
Take that jinx crap outta here, Clogger! ;-)
   26. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 12, 2011 at 03:37 AM (#3922289)
These aren't the kind of games the Cubs pull out. I know it's the Mets they're playing, but trust me on this. This game is over.
   27. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 03:37 AM (#3922291)
Oh David.

Drama fail.
   28. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 12, 2011 at 03:38 AM (#3922292)
Hopefully with a new GM starting in 2012, the Cubs will start churning out players who aren't fundamentally retarded.
   29. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 12, 2011 at 03:39 AM (#3922293)
Classic Cubs the last several innings.
   30. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 03:39 AM (#3922294)
Jason Bay will do fine as the hero. He deserves it.
   31. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 03:42 AM (#3922295)
Ugh
   32. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 03:43 AM (#3922297)
Pridie is overmatched here. This will not be the inning.
   33. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 03:43 AM (#3922298)
Awful swings.
   34. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 12, 2011 at 03:45 AM (#3922299)
Well hot damn. I've never seen BPJ show that kind of emotion.
   35. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 03:45 AM (#3922300)
Overmatched. Pridie is not a major leaguer.
   36. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 12, 2011 at 03:46 AM (#3922302)
Yeah those first two swings suggested BPJ should throw nothing but more gas. I still expected the always enthralling walk-off walk, though.
   37. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 12, 2011 at 03:53 AM (#3922306)
Well that was disappointing.
   38. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:00 AM (#3922316)
God damn it.
   39. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:00 AM (#3922317)
Whoa.

Thank you, Jose.
   40. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:02 AM (#3922322)
Groan, James Russell?
   41. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:07 AM (#3922327)
Ramon Ortiz, eh? This unwritten rule that you don't use your closer on the road unless it's a save situation is really silly.
   42. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:11 AM (#3922330)
How many men are we going to leave on base?
   43. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:11 AM (#3922332)
This seems...unwise.
   44. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:13 AM (#3922336)
OH MY GOD WHY DO YOU PUNISH US
   45. The District Attorney Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:14 AM (#3922338)
Am at this game. This hurts.
   46. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:15 AM (#3922339)
No one is on base, so I expect Byrd to fare well.
   47. Good cripple hitter Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:17 AM (#3922343)
I didn't know why I was still watching this game, then I discovered that the Mets have a relief pitcher named Stinson who is just a tick above replacement level. That's awesome.
   48. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:21 AM (#3922347)
Unbelievable.
   49. The District Attorney Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:24 AM (#3922349)

No, it isn't.
   50. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:24 AM (#3922350)
Don't throw in the towel just yet. Carlos Marmol has surrendered TWO two-out grand slams in blown save outings this season.
   51. SteveM. Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:25 AM (#3922352)
This game seems to be as wacky as the Jets-Cowboys was. Probably the last Cubs game I get to see this year because I had to replace Direct TV with Comcast, who doesn't even carry WGN. I am not sure if that is a blessing or curse this season.
   52. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:27 AM (#3922355)
Soriano has been surprisingly acceptable at the plate lately.
   53. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:27 AM (#3922356)
Good night.
   54. SteveM. Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:28 AM (#3922357)
Soriano coming through in the clutch. Yep, a bizarre night.
   55. Lassus Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:29 AM (#3922359)
I never, ever give up on a game, but I am now too thoroughly demoralized.
   56. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:29 AM (#3922360)
Sorry to hear that, Steve. You've often been the only thing keeping me from talking to myself in game chatters this season.
   57. SteveM. Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:31 AM (#3922362)
I am pissed on many levels Walks, not the least of which is no NFL Sunday Ticket and I had already payed for the Extra Innings. But the hurricane made my landlord discover my dish was not up to code.
   58. The District Attorney Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:33 AM (#3922365)
Exiting stadium
   59. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:35 AM (#3922366)
Someone with the keys should start a thread about Ramirez and his future with the Cubs. It seemed like a no-brainer earlier this year, but he's had such a second half that it's not such a slam-dunk decision.
   60. SteveM. Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:36 AM (#3922367)
I am the point I am not against giving him a new deal. But that also needs to be weighed whether the new GM thinks Vitters will ever be a a MLB 3B.
   61. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:37 AM (#3922370)
Was another pitching change really necessary to cut off that all-important 10th run?
   62. SteveM. Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:39 AM (#3922374)
Right now, you'd swear the game is in Miami with all the empty seats.
   63. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:40 AM (#3922379)
The stadium seemed a bit quiet all evening.
   64. SteveM. Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:43 AM (#3922380)
Well maybe a six run lead is big enough for even Grabow to protect.
   65. SteveM. Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:45 AM (#3922382)
Or maybe not. Grabow just ####### sucks.
   66. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:47 AM (#3922385)
One of Hendry's most puzzling moves.
   67. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:48 AM (#3922386)
Well done, boys.
   68. SteveM. Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:48 AM (#3922387)
Cubs win. A statement we have been able to make all too rarely this year.
   69. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:49 AM (#3922388)
Funny that Pena falls just short of hitting for the cycle because he didn't homer.
   70. SteveM. Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:50 AM (#3922391)
usually that is all he is good for. I noticed Valentine criticized him for not using the whole field.
   71. The District Attorney Posted: September 12, 2011 at 04:51 AM (#3922393)
Why did they PH for Bay with a pitcher?
