Barney activated, Doug Davis released. Let the cleaning out of deadwood begin.
   2. Brian C Posted: June 29, 2011 at 10:59 PM (#3865693)
Oh great, so now we have to put up with Barney pitching?
   3. SteveM. Posted: June 29, 2011 at 11:22 PM (#3865712)
Funny. There were carrying 13 pitchers after sending down DJ and calling up Mateo for Game 2 last night.

A friend of mine was just complaining about how bad Phil Coke is. Out of curiosity, I checked and saw that in 30 fewer innings, Davis had given up nearly as many runs and walks as Coke.

Anybody else amazed that Soriano even hits as well as he does? It honestly looks like all you have to do is throw three sliders down and away and he's helpless. How does he ever NOT strike out?
   6. SteveM. Posted: June 30, 2011 at 01:20 AM (#3865870)
I was begging Soriano not to swing on strike three because I figured Lincecum would throw it nowhere near the strike zone.
   7. SteveM. Posted: June 30, 2011 at 01:34 AM (#3865890)
That was one of the better renditions of Take Me Out to the Ballgame this season.
   8. Brian C Posted: June 30, 2011 at 01:44 AM (#3865897)
Goodness, this has beena quick game. We go out for pizza, and when we get back it's already the bottom of the 7th already?

That Davis release has paid immediate dividends!
   9. SteveM. Posted: June 30, 2011 at 01:48 AM (#3865901)
This is how baseball should be. This has been a pleasure to watch.
   10. These Guys Suck Posted: June 30, 2011 at 01:51 AM (#3865906)
Nice one, Kosuke. What does that go for if it's to left instead of right?
   11. Brian C Posted: June 30, 2011 at 01:56 AM (#3865914)
Dempster has a positively Maddux-esque 78 pitches through 8 innings pitched. I don't see the need to get Marmol up, personally.
   12. SteveM. Posted: June 30, 2011 at 01:59 AM (#3865916)
If any of you are watching this on WGN in HD, are you seeing occasional black flashes?
   13. These Guys Suck Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:02 AM (#3865918)
I haven't noticed any.
   14. Brian C Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:02 AM (#3865919)
Haven't noticed anything, but I'm only watching in a look-up-occasionally sort of way.
   15. SteveM. Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:03 AM (#3865921)
Been worried its my TV, but saw none when I switched for a minute on So You Think You Can Dance.
   16. These Guys Suck Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:10 AM (#3865926)
Oh crap...
   17. Brian C Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:10 AM (#3865928)
Stupid dive by Campana. He really needed to do everything he could there to avoid the XBH, but instead ensured that it would become one. I think he could have cut that ball off.
   18. These Guys Suck Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:10 AM (#3865929)
Go with the opposite of your instinct, Quade.
   19. SteveM. Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:11 AM (#3865932)
Damn it. Let him try and go the distance. There are times I hate modern baseball.
   20. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:15 AM (#3865937)
Isn't Marmol like REALLY tough on lefties, though? I can't hate the move to bring in Marmol, even though I would have supported leaving Dempster in.
   21. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:16 AM (#3865940)
Well never mind then. Poor Dempster.
   22. Brian C Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:16 AM (#3865941)
I can understand pulling Dempster with a man on second. Marmol, is obviously a much better strikeout pitcher, which gives them a better chance of getting out of the inning.

And ... never mind. ####.
   23. These Guys Suck Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:16 AM (#3865942)
Nice inning, Campana. That was a Pierre-esque throw.
   24. SteveM. Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:16 AM (#3865943)
That was the definition of a horrible throw.
   25. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:17 AM (#3865944)
That throw was very Jacque Jones-esque.
   26. These Guys Suck Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:18 AM (#3865946)
Jacque = better comparison
   27. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:18 AM (#3865947)
Even Soriano is thinking, "Wow" this inning.
   28. Dan Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:19 AM (#3865949)
Awful baserunning by Burriss.
   29. Brian C Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:19 AM (#3865950)
Campana now 0-3 in this inning. And the Jacque Jones disease is spreading.
   30. Dan Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:20 AM (#3865952)
Why in the world was Burriss tagging on that instead of going halfway? He should've scored easily. Lucky for the Cubs that he's an idiot.
   31. Brian C Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:20 AM (#3865953)
Whew. That could have been worse. Damn shame, though.
   32. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:21 AM (#3865954)
Beats me. I thought that had gapper written all over it.
   33. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:23 AM (#3865955)
I love how Campana is so fast that by time that ball got over to first, he wasn't even in the picture because he was so far past the base.
   34. These Guys Suck Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:23 AM (#3865956)
Time for redemption, Tony.
   35. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:24 AM (#3865957)
Why not have him try to steal and THEN bunt him over?
   36. SteveM. Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:25 AM (#3865958)
I might have tried to let Campy attempt to steal before bunting.
   37. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:25 AM (#3865959)
Bob reading my mind.
   38. SteveM. Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:25 AM (#3865960)
Owe you a Coke Walks.
   39. Brian C Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:26 AM (#3865965)
Because Stewart eats basestealers like I eat pizza?
   40. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:27 AM (#3865966)
How about a passed ball walk-off?
   41. SteveM. Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:27 AM (#3865967)
The Cubs are 16 games down under. What do they have to lose by letting Campy run?
   42. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:28 AM (#3865968)
Nice. All is well.
   43. SteveM. Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:29 AM (#3865969)
Cubs win! Dempster gets screwed.
   44. These Guys Suck Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:29 AM (#3865970)
Well damn. That was a pleasant surprise.
   45. Brian C Posted: June 30, 2011 at 02:29 AM (#3865971)
Good.
