Well if this is anything like my MLB The Show 11 simulation of this game, Josh Beckett will throw a complete game shutout, allowing 5 singles, no walks, and striking out 14.

Any update on when/if this is happening?
   3. Dan Posted: August 03, 2011 at 12:37 AM (#3891454)
They're going to try and start at 8:45 EST

Some guy named Jason Kipnis, who I had never heard of before yesterday, has now homered in back-to-back games against the Sox.
   5. Dan Posted: August 03, 2011 at 12:48 AM (#3891460)
Wow, McDaonald almost ####### caught that.
   6. Fancy Pants Handles lap changes with class Posted: August 03, 2011 at 12:48 AM (#3891461)
Wish they hadn't now.
   7. Dan Posted: August 03, 2011 at 12:51 AM (#3891462)
Beckett's hit 95 on the NESN gun a few times tonight. Seems like his velocity is up a tick over his last couple of starts.
   8. Dan Posted: August 03, 2011 at 12:52 AM (#3891464)
Pitch F/X has Beckett throwing a 95.4 MPH 2-seamer that inning, along with a 94.9 MPH 4-seamer, and a 92.8 MPH cutter. Either the gun is hot tonight, or Beckett's cranking it up a bit.
   9. Dan Posted: August 03, 2011 at 01:01 AM (#3891470)
How the #### was that even a close play?

Some guy named Jason Kipnis, who I had never heard of before yesterday, has now homered in back-to-back games against the Sox.

I had to look him up too. College player, looks like he'll have a solid if likely unspectacular major league career judging by his minor league numbers (.297/.377/.485 career). His MLE for this season is .249/.315/.417 - not great, but in this climate that is just fine if you can competently play 2B.

Speaking of lesser known Indians, anyone know anything about David Huff? Is there anything interesting about him other than his apparent replacementlevelness?
   12. Dan Posted: August 03, 2011 at 01:07 AM (#3891475)
Beckett's curve is a bit slurvy tonight.
   13. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: August 03, 2011 at 01:08 AM (#3891477)
Oh, I certainly wasn't saying he was terrible or anything like that. Just that I had never heard of him.
   14. Dan Posted: August 03, 2011 at 01:21 AM (#3891488)
That was smooth, Kipnis.
   15. Dan Posted: August 03, 2011 at 01:22 AM (#3891491)
ALso, Crawford looks utterly hopeless against LHP.
   16. Dan Posted: August 03, 2011 at 01:23 AM (#3891492)
Varitek hitting with the bases loaded. This should end well.
   17. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: August 03, 2011 at 01:25 AM (#3891493)
Varitek knew that would happen.
   18. Fancy Pants Handles lap changes with class Posted: August 03, 2011 at 01:27 AM (#3891497)
Clutch strikeout!
   19. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: August 03, 2011 at 01:27 AM (#3891498)
Good job mashing the lefty, Darnell.
   20. Fancy Pants Handles lap changes with class Posted: August 03, 2011 at 01:27 AM (#3891499)
Unclutch strikeout!
   21. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: August 03, 2011 at 01:30 AM (#3891500)
Everyone is waving at pitches from the guy with a career 4.5 K/9.
   22. Dan Posted: August 03, 2011 at 01:35 AM (#3891503)
I think that ####### Asdrubal Cabrera's "breakout season" entirely consists of destroying Red Sox pitching.
   23. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: August 03, 2011 at 01:57 AM (#3891514)
That was an extremely bad pitch.
   24. Dan Posted: August 03, 2011 at 01:57 AM (#3891515)
YOuk is making much stronger throws from third lately. His arm looks good now.
   25. Dan Posted: August 03, 2011 at 02:04 AM (#3891522)
Jesus ####### christ, Crawford...
   26. Dan Posted: August 03, 2011 at 02:20 AM (#3891532)
####### WTP
   27. Dale Sams Posted: August 03, 2011 at 02:20 AM (#3891533)
You know asking Beltre if he'd take 3/37 and play LF wouldn't have been the worst idea in the world. (Insert 'if Manny could do it' meme...and his arm would be stronger)...of course he would have broen the ribs of 3 infielders, two outfielders, and 5 fans by now.
   28. Dan Posted: August 03, 2011 at 02:23 AM (#3891535)
Steal second!
   29. Dan Posted: August 03, 2011 at 02:27 AM (#3891538)
Just don't hit into a double play please, Gonzo
   30. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: August 03, 2011 at 02:27 AM (#3891540)
Oh for ####'s sake.
   31. Dan Posted: August 03, 2011 at 02:29 AM (#3891542)
Gonzo's been good this year, but he hits into SOOO many ####### double plays.
   32. Dan Posted: August 03, 2011 at 02:52 AM (#3891553)
Crawford is making a convincing argument that he should be platooned rather than Reddick.
   33. Dale Sams Posted: August 03, 2011 at 02:53 AM (#3891554)
That case wrapped up weeks ago.
   34. Mattbert Posted: August 03, 2011 at 03:29 AM (#3891566)
The shine may be starting to come off Reddick a bit, though. Only 7 walks over the past month, against 22 Ks (95 PA). Still good for an OPS north of .800, so he should still be getting plenty of time of course. Just slightly worrying that he may be reverting to some hacktasticness.
   35. Dan Posted: August 03, 2011 at 03:37 AM (#3891570)
Nice job, Crawford. They're just inviting intentional walks to Ortiz with Crawford behind him.
   36. Joel W Posted: August 03, 2011 at 03:39 AM (#3891574)
Yeah, Crawford's performance against lefties has been particularly abysmal and I was sure of failure there.
   37. Mattbert Posted: August 03, 2011 at 03:40 AM (#3891575)
Perhaps I was being too charitable with the "Devon White's decline phase" crack yesterday.
   38. Joel W Posted: August 03, 2011 at 03:41 AM (#3891577)
It's mostly stupid to have Crawford behind Ortiz because of the L/L issue. I am worried about the Yankees in the playoffs because CC can just dominate our lefty heavy lineup.
   39. Dan Posted: August 03, 2011 at 03:43 AM (#3891578)
The Sox have done a lot of damage against CC this year though.
   40. Joel W Posted: August 03, 2011 at 03:45 AM (#3891579)
Yeah, but he wasn't dealing quite like this early in the year.
   41. Dan Posted: August 03, 2011 at 03:45 AM (#3891580)
He was facing tougher offenses early in the year than the dreck he's been facing lately.
   42. Mattbert Posted: August 03, 2011 at 03:46 AM (#3891581)
CC is great, but he's only one pitcher. I'd be more worried about the Rangers; they can go with three decent-to-very good LH starters in a short series.
   43. Dan Posted: August 03, 2011 at 03:54 AM (#3891586)
Well how about that, a nice little walk off win.
   44. Joel W Posted: August 03, 2011 at 03:55 AM (#3891588)
I guess yeah the Rangers are also scary.

That was awesome. I really thought Salty was going to get thrown out. I was almost sure of it frankly.
