Loss.
Well at least half of this is true.
C'mon 9-7 win...
He's awesome. He's been on the team since I was in the 8th grade (I'm 30). He throws 65 mph mostly, but also has a fastball in the 70s (!) and a once=every-few-starts looping 58 mph curveball. He closed once, between stints as a starter, successfully too. Learned to pitch after washing out as a position player and went on to a 20 year (and counting) career. He's been an integral part of one of the five best AND one of the five worst moments in Red Sox history. That he is, by all accounts, one of the nicest guys on the team, and one who donates as much of his time and money to charitable causes as anyone. He's 45 and still going - for all the hard time you guys give him, he's a perfectly acceptable extra starter/mopup/long relief man.
Oh yeah, and he's going for his 200th win tonight. If you can't see how awesome Tim Wakefield is, I feel sorry for you.
Yes, I agree, and I do admire him and what he has done for the team and community, and yeah he's fun to watch sometimes...but awesome...ah...no.
You left the word 'weekend' out of that sentance...
PULL HIM NOW
PULL HIM NOW
Not loud enough, apparently.
Well me for sure. I never suggested he was soft with respect to the injury, however I never, ever thought he could be this good; and made my sentiments well known on this site. I was always happy to see him involved in any trade that included the possibility of bagging a pitcher like Santana from a few years back.
I have never been more happy to proven wrong in my baseball watching lifetime. Wow, I mean just wow, and boy is he going to cost us some cash when he needs to be re-signed.
If Francona would just take him out after 6 innings, Wakefield would look even better. Use Wheeler! Use Aceves! WTF!
Wheeler is pitching really well since early in the season - let's give him a chance to be a second Aceves, ready to pitch multiple innings a couple of times a week...
