Wake is actually 45 now. And he's awesome. Zip it!

Ted's been wrong at least 6 times this year (about games Wakefield pitches). Probably wrong way more about other things. Ha!

I would like us to trade for another starter,

Well at least half of this is true.

C'mon 9-7 win...

Jesus the knuckler looks like it has crazy movement tonight.

Well at least half of this is true.

He's awesome. He's been on the team since I was in the 8th grade (I'm 30). He throws 65 mph mostly, but also has a fastball in the 70s (!) and a once=every-few-starts looping 58 mph curveball. He closed once, between stints as a starter, successfully too. Learned to pitch after washing out as a position player and went on to a 20 year (and counting) career. He's been an integral part of one of the five best AND one of the five worst moments in Red Sox history. That he is, by all accounts, one of the nicest guys on the team, and one who donates as much of his time and money to charitable causes as anyone. He's 45 and still going - for all the hard time you guys give him, he's a perfectly acceptable extra starter/mopup/long relief man.

Oh yeah, and he's going for his 200th win tonight. If you can't see how awesome Tim Wakefield is, I feel sorry for you.

Yes, I agree, and I do admire him and what he has done for the team and community, and yeah he's fun to watch sometimes...but awesome...ah...no.

That was incredibly Lugo-esque.

Two straight "fastballs"? Really?

Kipnis is Australian for pain in the ass

Personally I am shocked that Wakefield is having trouble the second time through the order.

I will reluctantly count that as not failing.
   25. Dan Posted: August 04, 2011 at 12:27 AM (#3892246)
White Sox just bending it over for the Yankees again. 2 bunt singles, a bloop that fell in because neither CF or SS wanted it, and now a homer by Cano for a 4-0 lead with 1 out in the first.
   26. Dan Posted: August 04, 2011 at 12:30 AM (#3892247)
More than 1 run there would've been pretty nice.
   27. Dan Posted: August 04, 2011 at 12:35 AM (#3892248)
This best be Wakefield's last inning.

If you were going to use Williams, why didn't you use him against THE LEFTY THAT JUST DOUBLED?
   44. Dan Posted: August 04, 2011 at 01:11 AM (#3892283)
RANDY ####### WILLIAMS IN A TIE GAME? WHAT THE ####? ARE YOU EVEN TRYING TO WIN THIS GAME?

Well we sure wouldn't want to use Aceves in a non long-relief role. Better stick to those roles Tito

Why is Randy Williams still in the F!@#ing game? Oh right, because we have no other left hander in the bullpen
   51. Hugh Jorgan Posted: August 04, 2011 at 01:29 AM (#3892297)
Hmm, Randy Williams...really. Sure, I see the lefty matchup here, but he of the 1.89 WHIP does not inspire confidence...
   52. Dan Posted: August 04, 2011 at 01:31 AM (#3892299)
Yeah sure, let Williams face Santana and whoever else, what could possibly go wrong?
   53. Hugh Jorgan Posted: August 04, 2011 at 01:31 AM (#3892301)
yes, "gets" Hafner to line out!
   54. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: August 04, 2011 at 01:34 AM (#3892302)
Wow. Williams for the entire inning and it works out.
   55. Hugh Jorgan Posted: August 04, 2011 at 01:38 AM (#3892305)
Well that looks like managerial genius, having Williams get 4 outs. I am sure the pixie dust supply has run out though.

One Papijack, coming up.
   57. Darren Posted: August 04, 2011 at 02:07 AM (#3892319)
Can I interest anyone in how bad of a year Crawford is still having? He had a little hot streak but has settled back into being just terrible.
   58. Darren Posted: August 04, 2011 at 02:10 AM (#3892321)
Hitting for Reddick to get a righty against McDonald?
   59. The Piehole of David Wells Posted: August 04, 2011 at 02:10 AM (#3892323)
I don't get pinch hitting MacDonald for Reddick. That's not just a bad move, it's plain old retarded.

That was very dramatic to watch the little dot keep circling the bases on MLB Gamecast. Ellsbury!

Francona, always thinking ahead.

Ells!!
   67. Dale Sams Posted: August 04, 2011 at 02:24 AM (#3892337)
I want to remind everyone the general sentiment about Ellsbury last year with RSN (though probably not here) was about how 'soft' he was. How he was a terrible lead-off hitter, and how he should be traded, especially with Crawford coming on board. "Sox don't need two Ellsburys"
   68. Hugh Jorgan Posted: August 04, 2011 at 02:38 AM (#3892345)
I want to remind everyone

Well me for sure. I never suggested he was soft with respect to the injury, however I never, ever thought he could be this good; and made my sentiments well known on this site. I was always happy to see him involved in any trade that included the possibility of bagging a pitcher like Santana from a few years back.

I have never been more happy to proven wrong in my baseball watching lifetime. Wow, I mean just wow, and boy is he going to cost us some cash when he needs to be re-signed.
   69. Steve Balboni's Personal Trainer Posted: August 04, 2011 at 02:41 AM (#3892347)
We can make fun of Wakefield, but he's pitched 7 innings, 3 ER, and then tonight, 6.2 IP, 3 ER.

If Francona would just take him out after 6 innings, Wakefield would look even better. Use Wheeler! Use Aceves! WTF!

Wheeler is pitching really well since early in the season - let's give him a chance to be a second Aceves, ready to pitch multiple innings a couple of times a week...
