If Ortiz is really going to be out all week, they should just DL Scutaro and call up Lavarnway to get some DH ABs. Darnell McDonald and Mike Aviles don't need to be replacing Ortiz in the lineup while he's out.
   2. Dan Posted: August 17, 2011 at 05:39 PM (#3902423)
Holy ####, McDonald misplayed that miserably.
   3. Benji Gil Gamesh Rises Posted: August 17, 2011 at 05:50 PM (#3902434)
Memo to Red Sox starters: you are not, repeat NOT, obligated to give up runs in the 1st inning.
   4. Dan Posted: August 17, 2011 at 05:53 PM (#3902439)
In fairness to Lackey, that run was 100% Darnell McDonald's fault. He turned an easy out into a hit into a double.
   5. Dan Posted: August 17, 2011 at 05:54 PM (#3902442)
Gonzalez's power outage makes me very sad.
   6. Dan Posted: August 17, 2011 at 05:55 PM (#3902445)
Steal second to Gonzo doesn't GIDP.
   7. Dan Posted: August 17, 2011 at 05:59 PM (#3902453)
And of course they hit into a double play.
   8. Benji Gil Gamesh Rises Posted: August 17, 2011 at 06:00 PM (#3902454)
Every time I check it's not true, but this team seems like it's hitting into a record number of DPs.
   9. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: August 17, 2011 at 06:07 PM (#3902467)
What? Lackey could not have just thrown a pitch at 95MPH.
   10. Dan Posted: August 17, 2011 at 06:08 PM (#3902468)
Lackey's hit 95 several times over his last half dozen starts.
   11. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: August 17, 2011 at 06:10 PM (#3902471)
Huh. He looked decent in Seattle, but it was against Seattle and I couldn't see the radar gun readings very well from my seats. That's good news if he's regularly up there.
   12. Dan Posted: August 17, 2011 at 06:13 PM (#3902475)
What the #### are you swinging at that on 3-1 for?
   13. Dan Posted: August 17, 2011 at 06:14 PM (#3902476)
Way to completely give away an AB after getting up 3-0, Darnell.
   14. Dan Posted: August 17, 2011 at 06:17 PM (#3902481)
Crawford has a .327 OPS against the Rays this season (before that weak groundout). Way to make them regret letting you go, guy.
   15. Jay Seaver Posted: August 17, 2011 at 06:23 PM (#3902484)
Huh... It says on BBRef that Damon hasn't done much against the Sox this year, but it certainly seems like he's been on base constantly when he plays.
   16. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: August 17, 2011 at 06:35 PM (#3902493)
That was a pretty good pitch, but I have not been impressed with Aviles experience this year. Doesn't seem much different than Navarro, with less ability to play OF.
   17. Dan Posted: August 17, 2011 at 06:36 PM (#3902494)
Less power than Navarro as well.
   18. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: August 17, 2011 at 06:37 PM (#3902496)
Huge, awesome jump by Ellsbury. Nice.
   19. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: August 17, 2011 at 06:40 PM (#3902499)
Right? I'm not seeing anything that Aviles does that Navarro doesn't do the same or better. Other than be older.
   20. Dan Posted: August 17, 2011 at 06:42 PM (#3902503)
Holy ####, a line drive over the monster seats into the ad?
   21. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: August 17, 2011 at 06:44 PM (#3902509)
I think Aviles is a better defender than Navarro and he's definitely faster.

That Catch by Crawford is the one they got him for. It looked easy but he covered a lot of ground to make it look easy.
   22. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: August 17, 2011 at 06:52 PM (#3902516)
Aviles might be smoother and more sure-handed than Navarro, but I thought Navarro had a little better range at short.
   23. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: August 17, 2011 at 06:52 PM (#3902517)
Youk was limping pretty bad on that single.
   24. Dan Posted: August 17, 2011 at 06:54 PM (#3902519)
What happened to Lowrie's plate discipline? He's swinging at everything this year.
   25. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: August 17, 2011 at 06:57 PM (#3902524)
Price has the RHB looking bad today. The changeup is nasty.
   26. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: August 17, 2011 at 06:58 PM (#3902525)
174/200/304 since he's been back. Not good.
   27. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: August 17, 2011 at 07:01 PM (#3902529)
damn
   28. Dan Posted: August 17, 2011 at 07:02 PM (#3902530)
Lackey still sucks.
   29. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: August 17, 2011 at 07:06 PM (#3902534)
Lackey needs to have very good control to be effective. His stuff gets crushed if he misses his spots.
   30. Dan Posted: August 17, 2011 at 07:09 PM (#3902539)
That's your ####### AB, Crawford? Seriously, just #### off at this point.
   31. Jay Seaver Posted: August 17, 2011 at 07:11 PM (#3902542)
Apparently this is what Crawford has come to - his at-bats are failures and drawing ire even before my phone can relay the audio.
   32. Dan Posted: August 17, 2011 at 07:12 PM (#3902544)
How many times does Crawford hit the ball hard per week? 2 or 3 times?
   33. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: August 17, 2011 at 07:16 PM (#3902546)
Lackey getting a nice strikezone today.
   34. Jay Seaver Posted: August 17, 2011 at 07:22 PM (#3902550)
I like Jacoby Ellsbury a lot. He plays baseball well.
   35. Dan Posted: August 17, 2011 at 07:25 PM (#3902553)
Not a strike, but the zone's been wide all day.
   36. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: August 17, 2011 at 07:26 PM (#3902554)
Crap
   37. Dan Posted: August 17, 2011 at 07:26 PM (#3902555)
Gonzalez is broken.

And now we're squandering a ####### leadoff triple.
   38. Jay Seaver Posted: August 17, 2011 at 07:27 PM (#3902557)
Sounds like I should take #34 back.
   39. Benji Gil Gamesh Rises Posted: August 17, 2011 at 07:27 PM (#3902558)
Oh come on. WTF just happened?
   40. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: August 17, 2011 at 07:31 PM (#3902561)
Shoppach does not mind getting hit AT ALL
   41. Dan Posted: August 17, 2011 at 07:40 PM (#3902571)
Sure, add leaving Lackey in for too long and putting the game out of reach to the list of wonderful accomplishments for the day.
   42. Jay Seaver Posted: August 17, 2011 at 07:40 PM (#3902572)
I hate John Lackey games so much.
   43. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: August 17, 2011 at 07:41 PM (#3902573)
In July, I probably would have argued with you about a 4-0 game being out of reach, but Price looks unhittable today, and the Sox don't seem to be hitting at all lately.
   44. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: August 17, 2011 at 07:48 PM (#3902579)
Jesus, Lowrie looks terrible right now.
   45. Jay Seaver Posted: August 17, 2011 at 07:49 PM (#3902581)
Is Reddick hurt/ailing? The radio guy is talking like Varitek's the only bat available off the bench.
   46. Dan Posted: August 17, 2011 at 07:49 PM (#3902583)
Price is a ####### douche
   47. Jay Seaver Posted: August 17, 2011 at 07:54 PM (#3902588)
Carl Crawford has set a new record of striking out 37 times in a two-day period.
   48. Dan Posted: August 17, 2011 at 08:19 PM (#3902626)
Gonzalez looks ####### terrible.
   49. Dan Posted: August 17, 2011 at 08:27 PM (#3902631)
Pathetic effort from Crawford on the Damon foul ball.
   50. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: August 17, 2011 at 08:31 PM (#3902634)
Yeah. It seems he's getting worse at playing the Wall and the angles in left rather than improving as the year goes on. I don't get it, is he unintelligent? He must have played 50-60 games at Fenway with Tampa so the monster shouldn't be new to him but he seems perplexed by it. I thought he could've caught Zobrist's RBI double in the seventh too.
