With a win tonight, the Sox go 30 games over .500.
   2. ray james Posted: August 11, 2011 at 12:12 AM (#3897507)
Nice start.
   3. Dan Posted: August 11, 2011 at 12:18 AM (#3897511)
Gonzalez still rolling over a lost everything.
   4. ray james Posted: August 11, 2011 at 12:20 AM (#3897512)
Quote from Francona:

"No, not a little bit. That’s the last thing we ever talk about with any of our hitters, because you’re only going to cause problems," said Francona, who noted that at times Gonzalez has been "banged up," whether with shoulder or neck issues. "He’s found a way to still be productive. Most hitters, when they’re struggling, they’re making outs. He’s hitting singles. When he feels good, he’s hitting the ball out of the ballpark.
   5. Gamingboy Posted: August 11, 2011 at 12:22 AM (#3897514)
I predict the Twins will be scrappy and blow it late. I'm going by the first two games.
   6. Dan Posted: August 11, 2011 at 12:26 AM (#3897517)
Lester getting squeezed at the bottom of the zone.
   7. Gamingboy Posted: August 11, 2011 at 12:29 AM (#3897520)
Twins get a lead, thus, as known time and again, dooms them against Northeastern Opponents.
   8. Dan Posted: August 11, 2011 at 12:50 AM (#3897539)
Delmon Young is something else.
   9. Textbook Editor Posted: August 11, 2011 at 12:53 AM (#3897541)
Anyone notice Kevin Milwood was pitching tonight for the Rockies against the Reds? So far 5 IP, 2 R.
   10. ray james Posted: August 11, 2011 at 12:54 AM (#3897543)
Sure is.
   11. ray james Posted: August 11, 2011 at 01:07 AM (#3897560)
The bats are stinking it up tonight.
   12. Dan Posted: August 11, 2011 at 01:15 AM (#3897563)
Crawford just gave away a walk. Sigh.
   13. ray james Posted: August 11, 2011 at 01:15 AM (#3897564)
Wow. Crawford with the long AB. Too bad he flied out.
   14. Darren Posted: August 11, 2011 at 01:21 AM (#3897574)
When did the Millwood move happen? Good for him--always liked him for the whole therapy thing and how he handled it.
   15. Dan Posted: August 11, 2011 at 01:27 AM (#3897579)
Not an impressive 3-1 cut there, Reddick.
   16. Dan Posted: August 11, 2011 at 01:30 AM (#3897582)
####. I thought that was going to at least get the wall.
   17. Mattbert Posted: August 11, 2011 at 01:34 AM (#3897591)
When did the Millwood move happen? Good for him--always liked him for the whole therapy thing and how he handled it.

He was released last Friday, I believe at his request.
   18. Dan Posted: August 11, 2011 at 01:41 AM (#3897599)
Gonzalez swung at ball 4 and gave away a walk there too. (the 3-2 pitch he fouled away, not the one he flew out on)
   19. Darren Posted: August 11, 2011 at 01:42 AM (#3897600)
Does Blackburn always kill us?
   20. Darren Posted: August 11, 2011 at 01:43 AM (#3897602)
So Crawford's gone back to being horrible.
   21. Darren Posted: August 11, 2011 at 01:45 AM (#3897604)
Hard to tell at that angle, but did Crawford flail hopelessly at pitch 1?
   22. Darren Posted: August 11, 2011 at 01:50 AM (#3897610)
The Heidi segments remind me of an idiotic food network show or one of those live video clues they give on Jeopardy. Hideous, whichever way you go.
   23. Darren Posted: August 11, 2011 at 01:51 AM (#3897612)
Hey jerks, if I wanted to talk to myself, I wouldn't be on the computer.
   24. Mattbert Posted: August 11, 2011 at 01:53 AM (#3897615)
I see Denard Span is making just as strong a comeback from concussion as Justin Morneau.

Poor Twinkies.
   25. Darren Posted: August 11, 2011 at 01:54 AM (#3897617)
Oh yeah, that's a good call. Give me a ####### break. They never ever give the guy the base and that ball was into the stands!
   26. Darren Posted: August 11, 2011 at 01:59 AM (#3897622)
Remember kids, if you're at the park, reach out and grab the ball--it might help the home team!
   27. Dan Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:05 AM (#3897629)
Reddick got completely dicked on that strike 1 call. Should've been a 4 pitch walk. Instead he rolls over a 2-seamer with a 3-1 count. Bleh.
   28. Mattbert Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:06 AM (#3897632)

*takes revolver out of desk drawer
   29. Dan Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:07 AM (#3897634)
That was almost a 4-3 putout too.
   30. Dan Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:08 AM (#3897636)
Scutaro instead of Pedroia here sucks kind of hard.
   31. Textbook Editor Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:09 AM (#3897637)
Why in god's name is Scutaro hitting second? Is it just because he's RH? That's idiotic.
   32. Dan Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:09 AM (#3897638)
Tie game!

Oh wait, no, because McLelland called a call no one ever does, and let fan interference benefit the home team.
   33. Dan Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:10 AM (#3897641)
Why in god's name is Scutaro hitting second? Is it just because he's RH? That's idiotic.

No, it's because he can handle the bat well and you can hit and run with him!
   34. Textbook Editor Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:11 AM (#3897642)
I mean, didn't we just see a lineup in the past week where there were 3 LHBs in a row? Something like Gonzalez/Ortiz/Reddick (or something like that)?

I don't care that Scutaro did something useful; it's the larger point.
   35. Textbook Editor Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:11 AM (#3897643)
Oh wait, no, because McLelland called a call no one ever does, and let fan interference benefit the home team.

Not having a great series, that one.
   36. Dan Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:13 AM (#3897645)
Gonzalez looks awfully against lefties lately.
   37. Dan Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:15 AM (#3897647)
Sigh.
   38. Textbook Editor Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:16 AM (#3897648)
Lowrie will PH for Aviles before the end of this game, right?
   39. Dan Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:27 AM (#3897659)
Doesn't Span have like 1 hit since coming off the DL? You can't walk him...
   40. Dan Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:32 AM (#3897665)
Crawford against Perkins threatens to melt my brain.
   41. plink Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:33 AM (#3897667)
Ortiz!
   42. Dan Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:34 AM (#3897668)
Wow. That was a 98 MPH fastball too. Ortiz is all of a sudden heating up again.
   43. Dan Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:35 AM (#3897669)
I think strike 2 was in Mauer's glove when Carl swung.
   44. Dan Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:37 AM (#3897671)
Wow, Crawford proved me wrong. Hung in there on some fastballs and hit a curve up the middle into CF.
   45. Dan Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:39 AM (#3897674)
Why isn't Crawford stealing 2nd base?
   46. Darren Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:45 AM (#3897683)
Lester staying in will not hurt us!
   47. Dan Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:46 AM (#3897684)
I understand extending Lester here with the bullpen in the shape it's in. Basically none of the top guys are available.
   48. Darren Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:47 AM (#3897688)
Well, when you consider they're in "cruise through the rest of the season mode," you'd think they'd pull him, especially the way he struggled last inning.
   49. Dale Sams Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:49 AM (#3897691)
Crawford has 3 SBs and 2 CS in high leverage situations.
   50. Dan Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:50 AM (#3897694)
Thome kind of scares me here.
   51. Darren Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:50 AM (#3897695)
I can't fathom the point of Lester being on the mound right now.
   52. Dan Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:52 AM (#3897697)
That seemed inevitable.
   53. Darren Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:52 AM (#3897698)
That was before the double.
   54. Darren Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:53 AM (#3897700)
Incidentally, that double was just the kind of play I'd hope that a super-duper LF could catch. But then, maybe that's asking too much.
   55. Dan Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:54 AM (#3897703)
It also seems like Crawford was playing awfully shallow there considering Thome was batting.
   56. Dan Posted: August 11, 2011 at 02:58 AM (#3897707)
Oh well. Happy to win 2 of 3 in a series on the road, even if you expect you'd win the Lester - Blackburn matchup. I guess we used up our karma in winning the Baker - Wakefield game.
   57. Mattbert Posted: August 11, 2011 at 03:04 AM (#3897716)
Well, this is tedious.
   58. Dock Ellis on Acid Posted: August 11, 2011 at 03:05 AM (#3897719)
Good throw by Jacob.
   59. plink Posted: August 11, 2011 at 03:06 AM (#3897720)
Was it just me, or was the ball to Aviles easily catchable?
   60. Mattbert Posted: August 11, 2011 at 03:08 AM (#3897722)
FREE OKI!!!
   61. Mattbert Posted: August 11, 2011 at 03:11 AM (#3897723)
Aviles and then the top of the order, and the Twins have burned their sole good reliever.

We've got a chance.
   62. Dock Ellis on Acid Posted: August 11, 2011 at 03:14 AM (#3897730)
plink, I had the same thought. And like Darren, I thought CC was the kind of fielder who could've caught that one.
