Gues he wanted to hit a HR there...
   2. Jay Seaver Posted: August 14, 2011 at 02:17 AM (#3899441)
Man, if Ichiro's doing that, I hate to see what's going to happen when Wily Mo comes up to bat.
   3. Mattbert Posted: August 14, 2011 at 02:26 AM (#3899444)
Well, this is a fine old start to the evening.

LONG LIVE WILY MO!
   4. Jay Seaver Posted: August 14, 2011 at 02:28 AM (#3899447)
I love ya, Wily Mo, but I need to see an out here.
   5. Mattbert Posted: August 14, 2011 at 02:30 AM (#3899448)
Did we just witness the longest at-bat of Wily Mo Pena's career?
   6. Jay Seaver Posted: August 14, 2011 at 02:32 AM (#3899450)
This is not the way I saw the Felix-Beckett game going.

I don't know, but I'm pretty sure the Mariners just tied their season high in runs scored in a game... and it's still only the first inning.
   8. Jay Seaver Posted: August 14, 2011 at 02:35 AM (#3899454)
Inning mercifully over. I had no idea the Mariners had that in them.
   9. Mattbert Posted: August 14, 2011 at 02:35 AM (#3899455)
This is not the way I saw the Felix-Beckett game going.

Um, yeah. WTF.
   10. Jay Seaver Posted: August 14, 2011 at 02:42 AM (#3899458)
Felix, meanwhile, has thrown 23 pitches through two innings, which doesn't augur well for the "hope Beckett's first was a fluke, get Hernandez out of the game, maul the bullpen" strategy.
   11. Jay Seaver Posted: August 14, 2011 at 02:46 AM (#3899460)
So it's going to be that kind of night.
   12. Mattbert Posted: August 14, 2011 at 02:58 AM (#3899472)
Felix is doing his Chien-Min Carmona impression tonight, I see.
   13. Jay Seaver Posted: August 14, 2011 at 03:07 AM (#3899479)
Start running, Jacoby.
   14. Jay Seaver Posted: August 14, 2011 at 03:08 AM (#3899480)
Excellent. Now take third.
   15. Jay Seaver Posted: August 14, 2011 at 03:14 AM (#3899483)
How in the heck is Ellsbury safe there? Great throw by Ichiro and Bard looked to have kept the ball in hand.
   16. Benji Gil Gamesh Rises Posted: August 14, 2011 at 03:21 AM (#3899490)
They ultimately got it right, but I don't know WTF the ump was thinking to call him safe in the first place. I guess maybe he could see Bard didn't have a full normal grip on the ball, but Christ it was a long time after the tag before it came loose.
   17. Jay Seaver Posted: August 14, 2011 at 03:52 AM (#3899519)
Whew. I want to see Wily Mo Pena do well, but not tonight.
   18. Jay Seaver Posted: August 14, 2011 at 03:58 AM (#3899521)
JACOBY!

... And just what would the call be if Ichiro was able to catch that by climbing into the stands?
   19. Jay Seaver Posted: August 14, 2011 at 03:59 AM (#3899522)
Jacoby with the home run, Adrian with the infield bunt hit. What a weird inning.
   20. plink Posted: August 14, 2011 at 03:59 AM (#3899523)
*Very* nice bunt by Gonzalez.
   21. plink Posted: August 14, 2011 at 04:01 AM (#3899524)
Hooray Sox offense!
   22. Jay Seaver Posted: August 14, 2011 at 04:01 AM (#3899525)
Ladies and Gentlemen, Dustin Pedroia - Clean-up Hitter!

Making a game of it.
   23. Dan Posted: August 14, 2011 at 04:03 AM (#3899526)
Suddenly it's a game again. This offense never quits against good pitchers (though they seem to struggle frequently enough against scrubs).
   24. Jay Seaver Posted: August 14, 2011 at 04:03 AM (#3899527)
That Beckett could conceivably get a win for this game and not some of the ones where he really deserved it serves as exhibit #486972 on the silliness of the pitcher win stat.
   25. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: August 14, 2011 at 04:30 AM (#3899540)
Wow. That was actually the only place where a ground ball could have turned into a double play.
   26. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: August 14, 2011 at 04:33 AM (#3899541)
Good afternoon all - Pedroia's home run is ####### awesome , just awesome
   27. Mattbert Posted: August 14, 2011 at 04:38 AM (#3899543)
How's it hangin, Phil?
   28. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: August 14, 2011 at 04:42 AM (#3899545)
Mattbert, not bad. Really tired to be honest - we had 600 at the pub on Friday night for a huge show - Aussie band called British India .

Really has shaped us in a huge way for our live reputation - so happy to be honest.

How are you mate??
   29. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: August 14, 2011 at 04:42 AM (#3899546)
Little bit keen on the honesty part!!
   30. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: August 14, 2011 at 04:48 AM (#3899547)
MMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNN.
   31. Dan Posted: August 14, 2011 at 04:48 AM (#3899548)
Goddamnit. ####### double plays.
   32. Mattbert Posted: August 14, 2011 at 04:48 AM (#3899549)
I am as happy as I've been in a good long time. Settling in nicely back here in the States. New job hasn't started yet, so I've just been catching up on my to-read list and taking Kidbert to the beach. She starts school on Wednesday, and then I will need to start car shopping and getting ready to move into our new house at the end of the month assuming closing all goes smoothly.

Been a pretty feckin sweet summer, to be honest!
   33. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: August 14, 2011 at 04:49 AM (#3899552)
Wow, Wright threw that pitch on 3-1?
   34. Dan Posted: August 14, 2011 at 04:50 AM (#3899553)
4 ####### double plays in 8 innings. Jesus.
   35. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: August 14, 2011 at 04:51 AM (#3899554)
NO NOT THE ####### PINCH RUNNER
   36. Mattbert Posted: August 14, 2011 at 04:53 AM (#3899556)
Yeah, I love Tito and I think he's fantastic - but that right there is some dumbass managerating.
   37. Jay Seaver Posted: August 14, 2011 at 04:54 AM (#3899558)
McDonald looked pretty safe there.
   38. plink Posted: August 14, 2011 at 04:54 AM (#3899559)
Uh, replay, NESN?
   39. Dan Posted: August 14, 2011 at 04:54 AM (#3899560)
Ugh. Why run there with that count and Reddick's power at the plate? Dumb dumb dumb
   40. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: August 14, 2011 at 04:56 AM (#3899561)
Definitely out on slo-mo replay.
   41. Jay Seaver Posted: August 14, 2011 at 04:57 AM (#3899562)
Or not.
   42. plink Posted: August 14, 2011 at 04:57 AM (#3899563)
Good call, bad slide by McDonald.
   43. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: August 14, 2011 at 05:03 AM (#3899565)

Bloody great to see!
   44. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: August 14, 2011 at 05:06 AM (#3899566)
Time for some bottom of the order action.
   45. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: August 14, 2011 at 05:11 AM (#3899568)
Come off the bench and try to time a 98 MPH fastball. Yeah, good luck with that.
   46. Dan Posted: August 14, 2011 at 05:13 AM (#3899570)
No Salty or Youk hitting here? Lame.
   47. Dan Posted: August 14, 2011 at 05:14 AM (#3899571)
Varitek against League is a ####### joke.
   48. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: August 14, 2011 at 05:14 AM (#3899572)
I think Varitek started the swing on strike 2 when the pitch was already in the catcher's glove.
   49. Steve Balboni's Personal Trainer Posted: August 14, 2011 at 01:56 PM (#3899645)
I wish Salty was hitting in place of Varitek more often...could've used him last night...
