I was planning on staying here, since the other thread will have crazy velocity talking about things like the NL games and Braun's batting title chase, etc.

I'll be watching Rays - Yankees as well as this game, so probably talking a bit about that game in here as well, but the thread velocity on the main board will probably make it impossible to keep up while also watching 2 baseball games.

Yeah, hope I haven't opened us up. For what it's worth DKDC and any other Oriole fans are of course welcome to root on their boys. I'm not much for trash talking (in either direction) and I hope that we can avoid that tonight in either direction.

I'm staying here too. The chatter gets too disjointed when people are watching several different games and commenting in the same place. It's gets very confusing when someone references something and it's not clear to what game they are referencing.

Well if he can't pitch well tonight, it probably means he would've sucked in the playoffs too. They wouldn't be going far in the playoffs without Lester and Beckett pitching well anyway.

According to MLB Trade Rumors Joel Sherman is saying Terry Francona isn't safe and the feeling is that he's let players get out of shape and has stopped attending to some of the smaller details of his job.

So, which players do you think Sherman/Heyman is referring to who got out of shape?

I'd say Lackey, Gonzalez, Drew, and Crawford are in the mix.

I don't think Crawford got out of shape. He seems like a fitness nut. If anything, he probably works out TOO hard during the season and tires himself out.

Definitely Beckett and Lackey. Probably Lester. Maybe Buchholz. Maybe Youkilis. Maybe Cameron. Probably Varitek.

Lester seems to be getting a bit more of the zone with his fastball than he usually does - that can be a sign of overthrowing a little.

Before we get too deep I haven't seen him here tonight yet but hat tip to MCoA for running Sox Therapy all year. We have a great community of Sox fans here and I think he's a big reason why.

If Francona is letting his players get out of shape, it partly explains last year's collapse too and then I think it's justifiable to let him go.

To me, 2010 is all about the injuries. The whole difference between the club's projected and actual wins was injuries. I guess you could say they got injured because of conditioning, or something.

Lavarnway's defense seems totally unremarkable, in a good way. Nothing about him screams "that guy isn't a catcher".

I was out drinking for the game last night, but what I was able to see, Lavarnway looked perfectly fine behind the plate.

In his first PAs with the Sox, I thought he was too passive. That one he took a pitch to drive on 0-0 and swung at a pitcher's pitch. I think he could benefit from some coaching on approach at the plate.

From start to hitting zone seems like a very short trip for Lavarnway's bat. Not a big swing for a power hitter.

I wouldn't want Price to go more than six anyway tonight, I'd much rather put my faith in three highly leveraged bullpen innings these days than him late in the game. He has been coming up small pretty regularly since the 2010 ALDS.

It irks me that the Sox thought it was more important to get him 200 wins. They clearly thought the spot was sewn up.

Pretty wound up. Sure, the team isn't super-deserving of a playoff spot or anything but it would obviously be huge for them to get in particularly after they were largely declared dead before spring training. Also nervous about Price and the randomly disappearing offense, as well as the fact that the Orioles are a pretty bad team capable of falling apart at any moment in a game.
