So Colvin isn't starting against a RH why? Quade is such a buffoon.
   2. Brian C Posted: August 06, 2011 at 05:51 PM (#3894292)
Because Reed Johnson is 3 for 8 against Cueto and Colvin's only 2 for 6. Swear to God that's the rationale Len gave, only he ignored the Colvin numbers.

Zambrano isn't going to last five at this pace.
   4. SteveM. Posted: August 06, 2011 at 05:57 PM (#3894296)
This is why the Cubs should have fired Hendry already, letting the new GM the ability to either can Quade or tell him to play the kids.

Z!!
   6. Brian C Posted: August 06, 2011 at 06:01 PM (#3894298)
I like Carlos Zambrano, he hits homeruns for the Cubs.
   7. Brian C Posted: August 06, 2011 at 06:05 PM (#3894301)
Z's now hitting .350/.381/.550 on the year. That's just comical.
   8. SteveM. Posted: August 06, 2011 at 06:08 PM (#3894303)
That is what the Cubs were not doing most of the season-getting two out RBI's.
   9. Brian C Posted: August 06, 2011 at 06:15 PM (#3894304)
Eight pitch inning for Z. Remember that to tell the grandkids.

I think the Reds may have lost Brandon Phillips for the rest of the season.
   11. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: August 06, 2011 at 06:21 PM (#3894308)
gameday says it was 'deflected' by Brandon Phillips. Did he deflect it with his face or something?
   12. Brian C Posted: August 06, 2011 at 06:22 PM (#3894309)
I dunno, he's up on his own power and wants to stay in the game. I imagine they'll take him out anyway by the end of the game.
   13. SteveM. Posted: August 06, 2011 at 06:23 PM (#3894310)
No-he collided with Stubbs on a pop fly. Phillips had it in glove glove when he hit Stubbs and the ball came out. I can't believe he is still in the game.

No, it was a popup and he and Stubbs got there at the same time. Stubbs tried to slide to avoid the collision but he slid into Phillips and took his legs out from under him. Phillips had the ball but it came out as he went down.

I hate watching Quade argue. In this case, he's wrong anyway. But good arguers look like they're telling the umps how it is, and make the umps look defensive. Quade seems incapable of doing that. Quade just looks like he's whining.
   16. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: August 06, 2011 at 06:37 PM (#3894321)
I do enjoy Pena's great eye at the plate, even when he's got bases full of potential batted-in runs tempting him.
   17. SteveM. Posted: August 06, 2011 at 06:56 PM (#3894330)
The Reds LF may be the worst fielder I have seen in the outfield since Todd Hundley tried playing out there.
   18. Dan Posted: August 06, 2011 at 06:58 PM (#3894331)
Reds need to face facts and trade Alonso. He cannot play the OF.
   19. Brian C Posted: August 06, 2011 at 06:58 PM (#3894332)
Yes. That play wasn't quite the chain reaction of brutal that the Campana HR was yesterday, but it was in its own way even more inexcusable.
   20. Dan Posted: August 06, 2011 at 07:05 PM (#3894334)
That play wasn't as ugly, but that was another catchable ball for an actual outfielder.
   21. Brian C Posted: August 06, 2011 at 07:08 PM (#3894335)
It wasn't long ago that the Cubs were losing games just like this. I am enjoying the reversal.
   22. SteveM. Posted: August 06, 2011 at 07:10 PM (#3894337)
The Reds have seemingly forgotten how to play defense. That was a horrible angle by Stubbs.
   23. Dan Posted: August 06, 2011 at 07:10 PM (#3894338)
The Reds defense has not impressed.
   24. Brian C Posted: August 06, 2011 at 07:12 PM (#3894339)
Brenly: "Man, you've got a Reds team out there that is just not paying attention to the game of baseball."
   25. Brian C Posted: August 06, 2011 at 07:15 PM (#3894340)
Now let's see if Quade can ride a shaky Zambrano too far and gets the Reds right back in this.
   26. Dan Posted: August 06, 2011 at 07:17 PM (#3894342)
Alonso is going to be a really good first baseman for someone. The Rays, maybe?
   27. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: August 06, 2011 at 07:20 PM (#3894344)
This is the type of game you let John Grabow get some work in. No real reason to have Zambrano out there still.
   28. SteveM. Posted: August 06, 2011 at 07:23 PM (#3894346)
The Cubs will be in the market for a new 1B after this season.
   29. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: August 06, 2011 at 07:28 PM (#3894347)
This game is really swelling up Soriano's OBP.
   30. Brian C Posted: August 06, 2011 at 07:35 PM (#3894355)
This game is really swelling up Soriano's OBP.

Yeah, another week like this, it'll be up over .300!
   31. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: August 06, 2011 at 07:37 PM (#3894358)
What a great AB from Starlin.
   32. SteveM. Posted: August 06, 2011 at 07:37 PM (#3894359)
I heart Starling Castro. He at least gives me hope for the Cubs future.
   33. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: August 06, 2011 at 07:38 PM (#3894360)
Tongue-in-cheek, Brian. I only mention it because I noticed yesterday that Soriano's OBP was all the way down to the .270s. That's nearing Alex Rios territory.
   34. Brian C Posted: August 06, 2011 at 07:40 PM (#3894362)
If Starlin ever learns to lay off a few pitches ... it's hard to know how good he'll be. His bat control is so exceptional that I fear for the league if he ever learns to take a few of those pitches that he fouls off.
   35. Brian C Posted: August 06, 2011 at 07:40 PM (#3894363)
Tongue-in-cheek, Brian.

I know. :)
